Job Description

We are seeking a part time Community Dementia Coordinator, for 16 hours per week to support the operation of ournetwork of Memory Way Cafs (MWC) Singing for Memory sessions (SfM) and wishes to develop other community based dementia services.The sessions and community-based dementia services are intended to enable people who are living with dementia in their own homes and/or their family carers to enjoy engaging appropriate activities and to create supportive networks. They are also designedto help reduce the isolation experienced by some people living with dementia and their carers and be a soft entry into Jewish Care services.The aim is to reduce isolation and increase wellbeing for both the person living with dementia as well as their partner and primary carer. In addition advice and support can be given to family carers during sessions. Cafes each have their own individualcharacter; some meet fortnightly, others monthly; some offer opportunities for carers to spend up to an hour sharing experiences with other carers while the PLWD is engaged in activities organized by volunteers and centre staff. Others have joint activitiesand speakers.What youll be doing:

  • Supporting the operation of the existing MWCs and SfM sessions by assisting liaison with staff and volunteers, attending the services on a regular basis in order to strengthen relationships and maximize the potential of the services.
  • Assisting with supporting volunteers in contacting potential attendees at MWCs and SfM as necessary. To support volunteers to increase and maintain attendance of sessions.
  • Identifing any additional Jewish Care support required by the attendees at these sessions, assisting with guidance on programming.
  • co-ordinating a database of appropriate speakers in order to minimise duplication of efforts and enrich programming.
  • Liaising across Jewish Care departments (including the Community Support and Social Work teams, Volunteers Department, Community and Day Centre Staff and Arts, Disability and Dementia Team professionals) and appropriate external organisations and agencies,to share experience and knowledge and to promote the community based services.
  • Assisting with co-ordination, recruitment and training of volunteers for existing and related services.
  • Working in various locations and environments.
What were looking for:
  • A working knowledge of dementia
  • Experience of workingin a community setting with older people and volunteers
  • Experience of working in an administration environment and have good IT literacy skills.
  • Experience of working independently, and in a supervisory capacity with staff and volunteers
  • Hold a UK drivers licence and have access to a vehicle for work.
