Job Description

The position mainly comprises of preparing tensile, charpy, bend test and metallographic specimens for testing / evaluation.

  • Effective planning to determine test specimen location(s) for cutting on band saws.
  • Planning of cutting process to ensure smooth and effective flow of production.
  • Appropriate documentation and Identification of test specimens and any offcuts to ensure full traceability.
  • Machining of test specimens using machinery - Milling (including CNC), CNC lathe and Surface Grinder.
  • Using abrasive wheels.
  • Inspection of test specimens to check for conformance with engineering drawings using a combination of measuring / inspection equipments - Vernier Callipers, Micrometer, gap gauge, bore gauge, shadow graph.
  • Preparation of metallographic specimens using a combination of cutting, mounting and polishing process.
  • General housekeeping on a daily basis to ensure safe, clean and orderly working environment.
  • Other duties as requested by management.
    • Skills Required
  • Interpret information provided in Job pack and plan subsequent steps.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and plan ahead.
  • Operate and manage more than one machine (for eg. Bandsaws & CNC lathes) when required.
  • Program or undertake training to programme CNC lathe / miller (CNC language - Fanuc, Fagor, Anilam).
  • Use general hand tools.
  • Use measuring / inspection equipments and working to tight tolerances.
  • Follow strict Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Work in an orderly manner maintaining safe and clean working environment.
  • Perform repetitive tasks to high standards.
