Job Description

Hosting Engineer, Tyne and WearSalary circa £40,000 depending on experienceWere helping a global business working with some of the worlds leading and most iconic brands, in their search for an experienced Hosting Engineer to join their IT function. The successful candidate will be a key contributor to the build and run operations of Hosting services for my client.You will be responsible for consulting, reviewing and approving server/storage solutions, as well as executing the implementation of projects, upgrades and continuous improvement for hosting services. You will also drive the provision and maintenance of server/storage and drive analysis, and the resolution of major hosting hardware and software incidents/problems in a timely and accurate fashion.Key responsibilities will include (but not limited to):- Define, document and maintain the server/storage architecture and standards.- Implement the future vision and strategy for servers/storage.- Assist with the development of a global hosting integration / separation strategy for acquisitions and divestments.- Provide server/storage architectural and design input into business cases during project planning and initiation.- Provide technical review and approval for every server/storage change proposed (internally and from third party vendors) in line with the relevant strategy.- Advise on the selection of major components of the server/storage environment.- Develop and manage the testing and implementation of the recovery plan for servers/storage, including initial emergency response and recovery procedures.- Manage and maintain server/storage infrastructure hardware and software.- Oversee installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of servers/storage - Monitor and analyse server/storage performance and assure that agreed-upon service levels are met- Respond to communications issues with hosting providers.- Interact with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to provision server/storage products and services.- Assure IT asset, configuration and change management are practiced, including maintenance of component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information.- Respond to emergency server/storage outages in accordance with business continuity and disaster recovery plans.- Aid in performing security audits, legal discoveries and investigations.- Participate in security solution development.- Develop reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals, and effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.- Conduct in-depth research into emerging technologies and trends.Criteria: - Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience - Solid previous experience in Hosting environments performing administration, design, planning and implementation preferred.*Some of the technologies you would be expected to deal with include: Windows/Linux Server, Microsoft Exchange, VMWare, Hyper-V, Remote Desktop Services, Network Attached Storage (NAS) & Storage Area Network (SAN) devices, converged & hyperconverged infrastructure, Enterprise backup solutions such as Veeam/Commvault and Active Directory. There would also be a strong need for a good base networking knowledge.Salary circa £40,000 depending on experience
