Lifting Operations ManagerSF32619Location - Faslane, HelensburghBusiness Unit - ClydeSalary - £54,450 plus bonus and benefitsAbout the RoleAt HMNB Clyde, we manage a number of activities on behalf of the MOD and currently were looking for a Lifting Operations Manager to join us. We provide highly specialised engineering support services, including operational maintenance, upgrades and repair to ships and submarines and submarine operator and maintainer training for the Royal Navys Astute Class submarines.You will act as the Lead Subject Matter Expert for Lifting and Slinging Operations across the businessTo govern, assure and improve the management and control arrangements that are in place for all Lifting and Slinging Operations undertaken by Babcock Clyde, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, Site Authorisation requirements and industry best practice.Your main responsibilities will include ensuring safe management and control of all lifting operations (in accordance with LOLER), through the provision of documented management arrangements which by design, ensure that lifts are suitably planned, supervised and executed in a safe manner.Acting as the Senior Appointed Person (Lifting), determining the competencies required for Lifting activities and appointing Appointed Persons once competencies have been achieved. Taking necessary action to resolve poor operational or cultural performance. Promoting and encouraging ownership and accountability for all staff and work force within their areas.Providing influential advice as required to personnel planning, supervising and executing lifting operations. Providing operational experience to those lifting operations to allow learning from experience to be incorporated in designed arrangements.Monitoring safety performance of operational lift teams through audit and other means, and implement safety initiatives to improve safety performance. Demonstration of any improvement should be through metrics and measurement.Supporting and driving a cultural shift within the lifting teams. Encouraging communication at all levels and supporting personnel in raising safety and continuous improvement ideasManaging the career development of all staff involved in lifting operations. Identifying roles and individuals that should be considered as part of a succession planning. Supporting the addition of new personnel into the business. Identifying training requirement and forecast costs while supporting training needs for all levels of the organisation.Identifying continuous improvement opportunities and projects and manage these through to close out. Record any benefits. Seeking guidance and feedback from team and reporting progress on this accordingly. Investigating best practice and bench marking against similar and differing organisations.Investigating and determining the cause of any lifting related incidents. Implementing any learning following investigation. What do I need to do the roleYou should have a minimum of CPCS (Competent Operators) Blue Card (or NPORS equivalent) in Appointed Person, Lift Supervisor, Operator and Slinger. Ideally with NEBOSH General Certificate or other H&S qualification and demonstrable or qualifications within a construction/engineering industryWe would also like you to have the following:• Extensive experience in a Heavy lifting and slinging industry.• Broad and deep knowledge of the design, operation, inspection and maintenance of large scale lifting and slinging equipment, systems and services in a highly regulated, high-hazard industrial manufacturing , maintenance or construction environment.• Ability to determine the competency, training, mentoring, auditing and certification requirements of all prospective and current Appointed Persons (Lifting/Slinging) for Babcock Clyde.• Experience using AutoCAD or similar software systems to produce Lifting PlansLastly, you should have good Microsoft Office skills and good communication skills.What else do I need to knowYou should hold or have the ability to obtain full SC clearanceAbout Babcock InternationalFor more than a century, Babcock, the Aerospace and Defence company, has been trusted to deliver bespoke, highly-skilled engineering services.
