Job Description

Engineer (In Water Engineering)Location: Faslane, Helensburgh, GB, G84 8HLCompensation: £31,500 - £44,000 Full Time / Permanent PositionSF39176Here at Babcock International, we are looking for Engineers to join the In Water Engineering (IWE) team and provide technical engineering support to aid the development of our underwater engineering, enabling inspections and repairs to be conducted on platformswhilst alongside a jetty rather than in a dry dock. Developing new IWE capabilities will require the deployment of Babcock in-house capabilities as well as the requirement to innovate, utilising new and emerging technologies to ensure IWE continues to expand.As an IWE Engineer you will provide guidance and ensure that IWE maintenance opportunities are identified, developed and integrated as the overall package evolves to deliver projects to meet safety, quality, time and cost targets.This is an exciting opportunity to progress your career and contribute to the improvement of our current capability to allow more complex and intrusive engineering on platforms.Responsibilities:* Identify, develop and integrate IWE work packages into platform base maintenance periods.* Act as the technical point of contact for IWE projects, as Fleet Operations underwater compliance authority.* Develop Method Statements liaising directly with Fleet Engineering and Compliance departments.* Work in collaboration with Babcock SHEQ to ensure risks and hazards have suitable mitigations.* Communicate with Fleet Programmes Project Teams to support the planning of IWE projects.* Lead innovation capability improvement projects, liaising directly with sub-contractors.* Arrange Learning from Experience sessions to ensure continuous improvement is applied to IWE work packages.* Ensure IWE work packages are compliant with relevant defence and industry standards.* Manage documentation within the designated department Sharepoint site.What do I need to do the roleWe are looking for someone that is competent and experienced in complex engineering work packages with knowledge of diving procedures and underwater engineering techniques.You will need to hold a Bachelors degree in an engineering subject or HNC/HND in Engineering with significant experience as a minimum requirement. You will also need to be eligible for SC clearance.We would also like you to have the following:

  • A good technical skillset, including technical report writing and problem solving,
  • An awareness of diving regulations and in water engineering techniques.
  • You should also hold knowledge of general engineering principles including mechanical and electrical engineering systems and equipment, as well as project management and process improvement techniques.
  • Knowledge of business processes (HR, Finance, ERP, Commercial) and knowledge of Submarine systems and equipment is desirable but not essential.
  • An aspiration of achieving chartered status with the Engineering Council.
Lastly, you will need to be an excellent communicator (both written and verbal) with the ability to work well within a team.What else do I need to know
  • This role is based at HM Naval Base Clyde, located 6 miles north of Helensburgh in the West of Scotland.
  • In addition to core working hours, you may be required to work overtime, including evenings and weekends, in order to meet project requirements.
  • This role will encompass agile working allowing you to work from home and site. Depending on project status working from site for a continuous period of time will be required.
