Job Description

We are an award winning and well-established health and wellbeing-based company located in Farnham who due to exciting brand growth, we are recruiting for a Technical Manager - FMCG to join our on-site operations team. As an organically grown and originally family run business with around 30 staff members, team fit is essential. Have recently received a large corporate investment and are going from strength to strength.Reporting to the Head of Operations and the CEO, as Technical Manager you will develop and deliver the companywide safety, quality, and legal framework for encompassing manufacturing, distribution and suppliers, whilst putting the customer at the heart of what we do.A Microbiology Degree is highly appealing for this position, however a qualified food technologist with relevant experience within a large FMCG organisation will also be considered.Working 9am-5.30pm Mon to Fri, in return we can offer an excellent salary of up to £44K plus annual bonus (approx. 10%), pension, free parking, 24 days holiday (plus bank holidays), on-site personal trainer and use of gym equipment.The main duties will be to:-

  • Develop and manage an assurance framework based on KPIs and other performance, quality and safety metrics to provide assurance of ongoing compliance to the required standards for ingredients, products and processes e.g. audits, analytical assurance, intake checks, etc
  • Develop and manage HACCP studies to ensure they are consistent with current operations, and controls and monitoring systems are still appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain accredited quality & safety management systems e.g. BRCGS
  • Adopt a zero-tolerance approach to all failings of quality, safety, legality and brand reputation.
  • Define the company product safety, health & safety, quality and legal standards, ensuring management controls are in place to deliver them through relevant training & operational procedures.
  • Define, develop and deliver training to relevant colleagues in safety, quality and legality to ensure compliance with mandatory and business requirements.
  • Define the technical system (IT) requirements for the quality management framework e.g. documentation, procedures, records, etc.
  • Develop and operate the processes for the technical management of suppliers (including contractors) and products ensuring that standards of safety, quality, legality and ethical supply are clearly defined and complied with thereby ensuring the integrity of the Brand.
  • Resolve queries from customers, suppliers or other stakeholders in a timely manner and ensure an effective issue escalation process is in place to identify and manage serious incidents.
  • Support the delivery of the development agenda identifying the technical requirements for new products and processes.
  • Provide clear and motivational leadership to team members acting as a role model so creating a culture of the highest standards and attention to detail, managing internal and external resources effectively and within budget constraints.
  • All activities achieved within budget each year, with no prosecution’s, frameworks in place for food safety, health & safety and quality management and products compliant to defined quality, safety and legal standards
  • To be successful as Technical Manager - FMCG, you will have a relevant food science or related biological science degree and a minimum of 5 plus years’ food industry experience. You will be experienced in the development and management of accredited quality and food safety management systems e.g. BRCGS and a qualified lead assessor. You will hold Food Safety & HACCP Qualifications to Level 3, be IT literate – including use of Microsoft Office programmes. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, analytical thinking and experience within a factory environment are essential.Extensive experience and microbiological food safety management, plus fermentation processes are highly desirable, as is qualification in Health and Safety e.g. NEBOSH. You will be confident, able to work well with other people, with a hands-on approach.
