Job Description

Our client an exciting and award-winning business are expanding their team as they continue to develop existing products and develop new product offerings for their customers. They are now looking to hire an outstanding Research Engineer to work on the development of their software and systems. As a Research Engineer you will be work within a multidisciplinary Product and Engineering team, researching, designingand testing new product ideas and prototypes. You will identify opportunities to create value for customers by analysing insights and customer trends whilst conducting research and exploring state of the art concepts for sensor fusion, defect characterisation and data analysis, as well as designing toolsand processes for other teams to implement. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Own the research roadmap, project manage live projects and prioritise work.
  • Manage live grants, authoring reports and coordinating review meetings.
  • Own and keep up to date the competitor database, evaluating each entries strengths and weaknesses.
  • Identify funding opportunities and support the writing of grants to secure funding.
  • Work with the Product team to identify new opportunities to create value for customers.
  • Design, build and test prototypes to evaluate each opportunity.
  • Designing, setting up and running experiments, analysing and disseminating results.
  • Support the development of state-of-the-art computer vision and sensing systems.
  • Design solutions for business problems, including preparing detailed technical specifications.
  • Research and test new sensing capabilities (e.g., 3D or wide spectrum imaging).
  • Stay tuned to the forefront of technology research, analyse, and contribute to the research roadmap.
  • Work with the ML, Engineering and Operations team to develop products and analyse performance.
  • Build tools and processes that the Operations team can use to commission the companys products.
  • Assist in the definition of team processes and strategies.
Essential Skills:
  • Degree in Engineering or the ability to demonstrate a similar skillset.
  • A skillset for exploring, analysing and evaluating latest ideas and research opportunities.
  • Able to disseminate results through report writing, presentations or other documentation.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast moving, dynamic environment.
  • Willingness to learn, embrace uncertainty and try new things.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
Desirable Skills:
  • Understanding of the grant funding landscape, e.g., Innovate UK or H2020.
  • Strong knowledge of camera and imaging concepts such as focal length, focus, aperture, motion blur, ISO.
  • Familiarity with 3D sensing technologies such as stereo vision, LiDAR, depth sensing, image projection.
  • Knowledge of Python with a good knowledge of its ecosystem.
  • Ability to understand and write algorithms in C++.
  • Familiarity with Computer Vision Frameworks such as OpenCV, PCL, Open3D.
