Job Description

Finance ManagerExeter, DevonCompetitive SalaryOur client, a leading organisation within the charitable sector in the South West, is actively searching for a skilled Finance Manager to join their team on a full-time, permanent basis. This role provides a hybrid work option but with good presence in theoffice.Reporting directly to the CEO, the Finance Manager role entails overseeing daily finance operations, ensuring the financial sustainability of the organisation and its subsidiaries through robust systems and management information. Compliance with legal andregulatory standards is a key aspect of this role. The ideal candidate should excel in finance software, while displaying proficiency in accounting concepts, VAT rules and payroll, finance systems, and legislation.The responsibilities:

  • Maintain accounting records and oversee receivables, payables, credit control, and cash management for secure bank deposits.
  • Manage the fixed asset register and enforce policies for an efficient financial control environment.
  • Handle month-end tasks including reconcile balance sheet accounts, post journals.
  • Prepare quarterly management accounts, including analysis and reports as needed.
  • Revise systems to provide quality finance data for informed decision-making.
  • Manage the annual external audit, involving collaboration with auditors, preparing the Trial Balance and supporting schedules.
  • Lead annual budgeting efforts, aid departmental budget holders, identify opportunities for cost savings and income generation, present CapEx budgets and manage cash flow, reserves, and investments to optimise surplus funds.
  • Ensure compliance with financial legislation, submit accurate statutory returns, manage risk by recording and reporting on the risk register for relevant committees.
  • Ensure accurate and timely employee payments and pension contributions reflected in payroll, oversee the HR system, provide support during annual pay reviews, and aid CEO and Line Managers in recruitment.
  • Support the CEO with any additional tasks as required.
The candidate:
  • Chartered Accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) with ongoing CPD
  • Proficiency in accounting software, with expertise in financial reporting, budget management, and stakeholder relations.
  • Strong attention to detail, creative thinking, and prioritisation skills.
  • Effective decision-making, time management, and adaptable work approach.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities for high-standard reports and operational plans in line with business goals.
