Job Description

We currently have an opportunity available for a Database Administrator to join our clients team with offices based in the Exeter and East Devon area.The role is offered as hybrid working, a mixture of office-based and home working - you will need to attend the office between 2 and 4 times per month on average.The role is offered on a full-time, permanent basis, with an extremely competitive salary, plus excellent benefits, including a £3,000 relocation allowance for candidates applying from further afield who will need to relocate to be nearer to the office.About the role:Working as a Database Administrator you will make sure critical applications, interfaces and databases are secure, resilient, highly-available, cost-efficient to support, capable of being scaled up to allow for planned growth and change. This includes theadministration of databases, including SQL Server and Oracle.You will be working within the Application Assurance team alongside two other teams, the Data/BI and Solution Delivery Teams.You will benefit from working with over 100 experienced IT professionals within this department.What you will be doing:You will be responsible for the administration of databases, including, SQL Server and Oracle - this could include taking backups, reviewing the efficiency of indexes and maintaining user acceptance, training/development copies of the databases, to allowtesting and development within the department. You will be ensuring latest patches, hot fixes and service packs are installed to ensure supported and security.You will receive, prioritise and escalate incidents when considered appropriate and necessary to maintain service level expectations - our clients ambition is to always prevent any future tickets being raised for the same reason.You will plan and undertake upgrades to critical platforms and support the transition of new and upgraded IT services into operational use - usually from other areas within IT, i.e., as a result of a project, but could be as a request from the Business,e.g., annual billing or new features being switched on.You will maintain knowledge and skill levels appropriate to your specialist area - this could be via formal training courses and investment in personal and professional development.What we are looking for:

  • Educated to degree level standard or able to demonstrate working to degree level.
  • Experienced in Database Administration for SQL Server and Oracle.
  • Experience with relevant operating systems, software and infrastructure, including Microsoft Server, Azure and AIX.
  • Able to take personal responsibility to keep their business knowledge, IT governance and technical skills up to date.
  • Demonstrate a strong customer service orientation, taking ownership to ensure the effective resolution of questions, requests and issues by the appropriate team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to influence change without direct authority through collaboration, diplomacy and persuasiveness.
  • Adept at presenting complex information in straightforward terms to a range of audiences.
