Job Description

Key Responsibilities:
  • To operate safely and to encourage a culture of Health and Safety, reporting near misses and potential hazards.
  • To operate within good manufacturing practice (GMP) standards and follow all GMP and Safety policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • To support and abide by the companys quality and food safety management system (BRC). Actively involved in ensuring the site is always audit ready and assist with external, 3rd party, customer and BRC audits.
  • To carry out GMP & internal audits ensuring all non-conformances are closed out and corrective actions are followed submitting completed reports in a timely manner.
  • Maintaining supplier / service supplier approval by ensuring all new or existing suppliers / service providers have all the relevant documentation, specifications and accreditations and keep systems up to date. (MSDSs, allergen declaration, accreditation& kosher certificates, specifications etc.)
  • Maintaining the kosher spreadsheets and liaising with the Rabi regarding Kosher where required.
  • To maintain the supplier complaint system ensuring records are completed and investigations are customer responses are completed in a timely manner.
  • Maintaining the site security Risk assessment.
  • Ensuring the new product development / existing product development processes are followed to ensure all materials and documentation meet legal and customer requirements as above.
  • To carry out regular reviews of site procedures and policies to ensure that procedures and supporting documentation are written in line with BRCGS requirements, in an appropriate format and detailed to enable appropriate training / completion.
  • Carry out training of Quality & Technical procedures within the business and effectively communicate quality issues or changes to standards, across all departments.
  • Updating the food security, fraud and vulnerability risk assessment up to date carrying out checks and ensuring documented evidence of relevant incidences which may relate to the company are communicated.
  • Management of the QMS system in conjunction with the quality & technical manager.
  • Attending the CI Meeting and minute taking and keeping all departments logs up to date.
  • Implementing KPIs to illustrate conformance etc., reporting of trends (KPI reports) and implementing corrective action / reduction plans as required to be incorporated into CI / Management / Department reports.
  • Engage in continuous improvement projects and regularly suggest ways to improve processes and procedures. To support the implementation and management of all new practices / systems introduced at site.
  • To interact and liaise with other departments, customers and outside agencies maintaining excellent cross functional communications links.
  • To support the Quality & Technical Manager and deputise when necessary.
  • To carry out any other duties reasonably requested.
Experience Required:
  • General knowledge of Health & Safety and Manual Handling
  • Level 3 Award in Supervising Food Safety.
  • Previous food industry experience with thorough knowledge of quality management systems, specification / supplier approval systems is essential.
  • In depth knowledge of food labelling legislation and food legislation / regulations
  • Level 3 HACCP
  • Demonstrable understanding of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)
  • Auditing / Lead Auditor Certification and auditing experience (Hygiene, HACCP, GMP, QMS).
  • Demonstrable understanding of Chemical Awareness, COSHH, CLP and Reach regulations.
  • Strong BRCGS knowledge and experience essential.
  • 2 years experience supervising staff in a food manufacturing environment where safety, quality and productivity are an absolute requirement is essential.
