The Network and Security Services team at Edinburgh Napier University provide key security and networking services to all of our staff and students. Our team develop and maintain, among other things, the campus backbone, data centre networking and wirelessinfrastructure that our users enjoy.Our services employ a wide range of market leading technologies which makes for an interesting and challenging environment. We regularly find ourselves connecting new and innovative technologies to our network including body scanners and various types ofrobotics, as well as the everyday types of devices that most users require.As such, we are currently recruiting an experienced Network Engineer to take responsibility for the day-to-day operation, configuration, maintenance and monitoring of active network equipment, in order to ensure smooth running of our networkservices.The Role:In this role, you will be tasked with actively assisting first-line colleagues in the resolution of incident, problem and change management processes pertaining to network services.You will be in an ideal position to use your experience of network configuration (Cisco), testing and maintenance to manage and support the systems and services that provide the data network for the University, as well as build and manage new network servicesto provide additional functionality to our overall service offering.Your logical and methodical approach to achieving tasks and objectives will serve you well in this role, which will also require some troubleshooting of operational problems. You will have a variety of diagnostic tools to access and assist you with this,allowing you to deliver the required support/change in line with our agreed service standards.Because you will be working with such a wide variety of users working in a diverse range of disciplines, this is not your average network maintenance role. Some of our users are developing and working with new and pioneering technologies that will in turnallow you to expand your own knowledge, develop your problem-solving skills and expose you to new ideas and ways of working to compliment your existing knowledge.Furthermore, we fully support your ongoing professional development. In conjunction with your line manager, you will have the opportunity to realise your own aspirations, identify your own key areas for learning and expand your knowledge base accordingly.We can also support hybrid working where duties allow and flexible working options where possible, in agreement with your line manager.What we will need from you:
