The Role: An exciting opportunity has arisen for the role of Head of Group Consolidation at M&G plc. This is a senior position with responsibility for the production of all Group-level IFRS and Solvency II consolidations and ensuring the Group meets its external reportingrequirements. The Group consolidation team comprises a number of qualified accountants and analysts, with 2 direct reports. This role will suit someone who has extensive consolidation and reporting experience, ideally within a listed company. Key Responsibilities:
  • To lead the Group consolidation for the production of consolidated IFRS financial statements
  • To lead the Group consolidation for the production of Group Solvency 2 quarterly and annual QRTs
  • Ownership of the Group consolidation system and change processes (currently HFM but transitioning to Tagetik in 2023)
  • Ensure changes arising from regulatory or accounting standard changes are implemented in the consolidation and reporting solutions in a well-controlled manner
  • Work closely with the Head of Group Reporting in ensuring overall delivery of the Group Annual Report and Accounts, Preliminary announcement and Interim Report
  • To lead or support the delivery of finance change projects that impact on the consolidation process
  • Support the on-boarding of newly acquired businesses
  • To lead the M&G Group level response to requests from regulatory bodies and analysts
  • Own the Group Auditor Independence Policy and its application across the Group
  • To lead or support the delivery of finance change projects that impact on the Group reporting process
  • To liaise with the external auditors, recently transitioned to PwC, ensuring that timescales are communicated and agreed and the auditors requirements are met to ensure timely completion of their work
  • To maintain effective working relationships with other teams in M&G plc finance ensuring that Group consolidation needs are communicated, understood and met
  • To lead the Group consolidation team ensuring a culture of effective performance management is embedded
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and take personal accountability to maintain and enhance controls you are responsible for to support improvement of the overall control environment, customer outcomes and a reduction in M&G plcs operational risk
You will have:
  • Experience of financial leadership within complex, global financial services businesses, some specific life and pensions and/or asset management knowledge is essential
  • Detailed knowledge of financial reporting regulatory requirements and legislatory frameworks
  • Knowledge of M&G plcs products, systems and distribution methods
  • Good knowledge of industry trends, best practice and developments, good networks / links with external bodies and individuals in the same field
Experience Required:
  • Significant experience of leading the production and delivery of complex consolidation processes, ideally in a life and pensions organisation
  • Experience of delivering listed-entity reporting
  • Experience of leading teams and of providing leadership to technical specialists
  • Significant experience of insurance accounting, including requirements of UKGAAP and IFRS
  • IFRS17 knowledge would be beneficial
Qualifications:
  • Qualified accountant with significant post qualification experience
