Job Description

Pertemps are delighted to be working with our public sector client in Edinburgh to recruit for a BEMS Controls Engineer on a temporary basis.Role - BEMS Controls EngineerLocation - Home Working but site visits required around EdinburghDuration - 6 monthsHours - 36 hours a week Monday - Friday (flexible working hours)Rate of Pay - £20.01 per hourImmediate startThe successful candidate will be joining an established team and will be undertaking the following duties:

  • Undertake a range of projects / areas of work to provide a professional Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS) Controls Engineering design / surveying / management service covering the complete operational property portfolio
  • Provide professional and technical advice on all matters relating to BEMS maintenance services in consideration of the property portfolio.
  • Support and advise with particular regard to the development and implementation of BEMS design, construction and maintenance.
  • Implement Property & Facilities Management Team policies and Service Plans and Key Strategic Initiatives.
  • Ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with client briefs and specified requirements such as Standing Orders, RICS Guides, British and European Standards, Building Standards, relevant sustainability regulations, policies and conditions and ensuring the application of statutory and other controls, such as Planning and Building Standards, with regard to contract administration and management is made.
  • Ensure adherence to site standards and practices, including H&SWA, CDM Regulations etc.
  • Provide information to the Manager to enable capital and revenue budgets to be formulated and monitored. Monitor project cash flows so as to ensure compliance with capital and revenue budgets.
  • Assist and advise the FM Helpdesk in relation to allocated works orders to contractors and as necessary review and authorise orders. This requires to be done regular basis and recorded utilising either CAFM or AS400 Systems.
  • Carry out surveys of existing BMS/BEMS installations and provide detailed condition reports with costs for repairs, maintenance and/or replacement, and recommend any future action required.
  • Record and respond to alarms generated by the BMS/BEMS monitoring suite including prioritising alarm calls and arrange for action by contractors and maintenance teams.
  • Carry out day to day monitoring of BMS/BEMS installations from central station and provide assistance to site users, such as head teachers, business managers, service support officers, etc. Assist with remote rescheduling of operating times for building users and providing users with energy data as requested.
  • Undertake project management, contract administration and liaison work with external consultants when commissioned to assist internal consultancy on specific projects.
  • Prepare written and verbal reports for departmental management and others.
  • Advise on the feasibility, viability and cost implications of proposals by clients and external parties in relation to and building or development of interest.
