Job Description

Our client is at the forefront of innovative cancer care with their UK network of cancer centres. They provide the most suitable, state-of-the-art cancer treatment and an exceptional level of care to every patient. The centres deliver high-quality diagnostic imaging and the latest in advanced cancer treatments including radiotherapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy and, in the future, proton beam therapy across all centres.To date, our client has three cancer centres open, two of which currently offer access to proton beam therapy, and a further four new centres planned in the next four years making a total of eight cancer centres around the UK. Their aim is to provide the majority of patients with a state-of-the-art cancer centre within a ninety-minute journey of their front door, wherever they are in the UK.Job PurposeThe purpose of this role is:

  • To attend to the needs of the patient during their Triple Assessment pathway through the Cancer centre
  • To ensure patient safety while within the centre including answering patients queries about the breast service.
  • To remain competent in all company mandatory training
  • To maintain and promote high professional standards to provide a high quality, efficient and effective diagnostic radiography service.
  • To participate in the radiographic operation of the assessment Centre, mobile units, and symptomatic clinics in accordance with the agreed operational policies of the Breast Screening Services and the National Health Service Breast Screening Program (NHSBSP).
  • Key Working Relationships The Bank Mammography Radiographer will work closely as part of the multi-disciplinary team in the MRI Department and with referrers and staff.Span and Scope of ResponsibilityThe post holder will work within the Breast Service at the Cancer Centre and be responsible for their own professional actions.Key Tasks
  • To provide a specialised clinical technical service to produce images of the highest diagnostic quality using as low a radiation dose as reasonably achievable whilst adhering to timeconstraints.
  • To maintain an exceptional standard of patientcare.
  • To undertake all breast imaging examinations as required in screening, assessment and symptomaticclinics.
  • To rapidly assess patient personality type and respond accordingly to elicit & document relevant clinical history within the time allowed, while also explaining the procedure, gaining consent, informing & advising thepatient.
  • To possess highly developed physical skills where a high degreeof precision & accuracy isessential.
  • To ensure the day-to-day smooth running of clinics when out on the mobile vans.
  • To document clinical observations, using own judgement whether to urgently highlight to the reporting radiologist. Within the Triple Assessment Clinic.
  • To provide specialist, in-depth complex and often sensitive information, and support to women in the screening environment but especially during assessment and symptomatic clinics. This may also necessitate overcoming barriers tounderstanding.
  • To assist in interventional procedures including digital stereotactic biopsy, vacuum biopsy, pre-operative wire localisations.
  • To ensure the mammography units are maintained as asuitable environment for staff &patients.
  • To encourage and practice accurate first time right’ Imaging and strive to achieve quality assurance in all aspects of the Service.
  • To assist members of staff with patient movement in a safe manner using appropriate manual handling in a safe and secure way as required.
  • To ensure that all clinical and other information records are fully and accurately completed including the Radiology computer system.
  • To ensure appropriate tidiness and efficiency is maintained in the work areas and assist other areas, as necessary. To check stock and restock when consumables are needed. Let the Lead Diagnostic radiographer know if anything is needed to be ordered.
  • To positively promote breast awareness and be involved in all aspects of healthpromotion.
  • To follow policies and procedures as defined by the local work area, Imaging Department or professional body.
  • To contribute to policy development within the Department.
  • To ensure the quality of service to patients remains high and, where appropriate, provide feedback on proposals for improving services.
  • To be responsible for the care and comfort of the patient whilst they are in the department and respecting their privacy, dignity, and religious and cultural beliefs.
