Job Description

On behalf of our client, an independent specialist day college for young people with learning disabilities and difficulties, we are recruiting an experienced Personal Tutor for an exciting, permanent role.Our client offers young people with learning disabilities and difficulties a wide range of programmes that are tailored to each individual’s needs. The personal and vocational training opportunities offered include Agriculture, Animal Studies, Horticulture, Hospitality and Catering, Art, Business Administration, Digital Technology, Horticulture, Retail, English and Maths.Job PurposeThe personal tutor is employed to exhibit exemplary teaching skills, incorporating Preparation for Adulthood curriculum themes through practical differentiated delivery. They must have the ability to deliver a range of accredited and non-accredited qualifications and outcomes. Personal tutors are responsible for ensuring their tutees are progressing across all curriculum areas as expected, maximizing the development of skills which are transferable to a variety of real-life situations and contexts in preparation for adulthood. The right candidate must possess the following:- passion for supporting adults with SEND to achieve life goals- good written and verbal communication skills- flexibility and adaptability- creative and innovative delivery skills- subject specialism that can be utilised to develop learner key skills- ability to manage a challenging workloadMain ResponsibilitiesIf successful, your responsibilities will include, but are not restricted to:- Modelling exemplary planning, assessment and teaching in order to deliver highly successful learning opportunities- Demonstrate high quality teaching for learners with autism and moderate learning difficulties and or disabilities- Manage all aspects of the learner experience for your allocated tutor group- Understand and apply RARPA into planning and preparation which enable learners to make improvement in personal skill development- Manage the learner journey process for your allocated tutor group; Initial Assessment, Induction, Baseline Assessment and summaries, set appropriate long- and medium-term goals, monitor progress and achievement of targets linked to goals, produce termly review of progress reports to show progression and outcomes- Responsible for maintaining and updating personal learner files and our systems- Liaise with parents/carers- Attend moderation meetings for all qualifications to ensure the sharing of good practice- Utilise to good effect the specialist support of Speech and Occupational Therapy- Provide detailed and accurate information about learner’s progress and performance- Responsible for classroom management- Deliver personal care and promote independence- Participate in the observation process for the college that is linked to quality improvement- Promotion of English, mathematics and ICT throughout all sessions- Undertake training- Participate in the staff appraisal and supervision process- Attend meetings, briefings and other forums as required- Support the curriculum managers in the development and implementation of a holistic curriculum that meets the needs and aspirations of all learners- To liaise effectively with colleagues- To promote the vision, culture and ethos of the college.This list of duties should not be regarded as exclusive or exhaustive.Due to the nature of the role, an enhanced DBS will be required.What we’re looking for:On behalf of our client, we are looking for candidates with the following: - A degree in an appropriate discipline or significant relevant industry experience- PGCE or Cert Ed Level four- Minimum Level two (or equivalent) Maths and English- Specialist subject qualifications- Teaching learners with autism and MLD within a special education setting- Teaching a vocational curriculum in a similar organisation (Pre-Entry - Level two)- Teaching PSHE related topics, or ability to do so.- Able to work independently and in a team- Motivate, inspire and effectively support learners- Driven to achieve results and succeed- Contribute to the overall development of teaching and learning throughout the college- Ability and passion to discover new opportunities for learning and developing own professional specialisms and experiences- Secure subject knowledge- In-depth understanding of Ofsteds Education Inspection Framework (EIF)- Evidence of high-quality practice relating to learners with additional needs- Understanding of the ways in which learners with learning difficulties learn and having practical knowledge of appropriate strategies to support their learning- Flexibility is essential to enable the college to meet the needs of our learners- To be an inspiring teacher- Willingness and ability to challenge and develop- The ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive issues- Strong interpersonal skills and the confidence to represent the college positively in a public forumNineteen Recruitment is committed to equal opportunities and as such no applicant or worker will receive less favourable treatment on the grounds of gender, age, disability, religion, belief, sexual orientation, marital status, race or employment status.
