Job Description

As the Head of Psychology (Maternity Cover 10 Months Fixed Term Contract) HCPC Registered Clinical/Forensic/Counselling Psychologist, you will lead the Psychology Team at Hillview Hospital, being responsible for assessment and interventions through formulatingtreatment plans and employing therapy across the care setting. You will also provide clinical supervision to members of the psychology team.If so, join our team at Hillview Hospital which has recently been acquired by Elysium Healthcare and is on a transformational journey to make it an area-leading service.You will implement, oversee and develop a range of highly specialist psychological interventions for individuals within and across teams employed individually and in synthesis, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatorymodels and maintaining several provisional hypotheses.Your responsibilities:

  • To provide the highest standards of evidence-based psychological assessment, formulation, and interventions by working directly, indirectly and/or in a supervisory capacity in the hospital/group of hospitals.
  • To support the development of clinical team working, including development and implementation of local/corporate policies, and the delivery of staff training programmes.
  • To support the clinical team and area of service in developing new initiatives and ways of working.
  • Maintain high quality in all areas of practice including effective team working; using a range of evidence-based psychological approaches; ensuring adherence to national guidelines, legislation, organisational protocols, procedures, policies, standards,and systems.
  • To support and develop a team of qualified and in-training Psychology staff.
  • Working within a highly specialised clinical area, to provide/supervise highly developed specialist psychological assessments of service users based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources includingpsychological (and neuropsychological) tests, self-report measures, rating scales direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the service users care.
  • Directly, or through the provision of supervision, to make highly skilled evaluations and decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processesthat have shaped the individual, family or group.
  • To ensure clear systems are in place (and are followed) to process and manage new referrals/admissions. To allocate new cases promptly and ensure that they are being responsively managed by departmental and site-wide standards.
  • To support/supervise other departmental members in the assessment, formulation and case management of therapeutic work.
  • To develop and oversee (group work) programmes and innovative therapeutic approaches. To ensure that appropriate outcome measures are in place.
  • To develop and support appropriate systems for the effective running of the Psychology service in line with clinical governance standards, professional standards, and departmental procedures.
  • Maintain and evidence standards of competence as defined by the HCPC and BPS.
To be successful in this role, youll need:
  • Prior experience and competence of managing in-training and qualified Psychologists.
  • Effective clinical supervisory experience of Psychology staff.
  • Evidence of leadership skills in both clinical and organisational project work.
  • Advanced assessment and formulation skills.
  • Clinical therapy skills - Experience using CBT and DBT skills to address a range of clinical and/or forensic issues. Excellent awareness and knowledge base of other therapeutic approaches.
  • Possess advanced levels of skills and competence in assessing, formulating and working therapeutically with service users in the service area.
  • Have an up to date knowledge of legislation and its implications for the profession and the client groups we work with.
  • Be able to manage and supervise staff within the department, ensuring that they are meeting professional practice expectations and the BPS code of ethics.
