Job Description

Media & Communications ManagerHybrid working from either Nottingham, Derby, Leicester or ChesterfieldC£35,000 p.a.

The Company:ER Recruitment is working exclusively with the East Midlands Chamber of Commerce on this exciting, wide-ranging position of Media & Communications Manager. The successful candidate will apply creativity and communication skills daily to help to raise the profileof the Chamber, protect, build and enhance its brand and deliver on its vision to enhance East Midlands businesses and communities’.Role & Responsibilities of the Media & Communications Manager:
  • Developing, planning and delivering an integrated multi-channel PR and media strategy that positions the Chamber as the leading voice of business in the East Midlands and assists in achieving its agreed three-year business plan objectives.
  • Devising innovative strategies and media campaigns to support all departments and subsidiaries in order to encourage take-up of events, products and services.
  • Developing news releases, authoritative comment and features and securing coverage for them in the local, regional, national and specialist trade media.
  • Mitigating any reputational risks or potential damage to the brand from negative media stories.
  • Maintaining a high level of engagement and networking with the media and related partners across the East Midlands.
  • Writing and issuing media comment and reaction to breaking business, economic and political issues and providing PR support to underpin the company’s policy and lobbying activities.
  • Preparing and briefing key media spokespeople to enable them to present positive and authoritative impressions to the media and the general public.
  • Liaising and maintaining good media relationships with key strategic partner organisations including public organisations and bodies, members and local authorities.
  • Producing monthly Press and Media report to update Senior Leadership Team and Board.
  • Developing a forward plan of expected local and national political media announcements.
  • Building and developing a strong network of contacts in the press and among key stakeholders.
  • Continuously evaluating and assessing the most effective ways to reach new audiences.
  • Working closely with the Marketing team to align key messages to the press and media.
  • Being accountable for core publications.
  • Developing and delivering an enhanced digital presence for disseminating news and reaction to both regional and national press and members.
  • Plan, deliver and promote the business manifesto.
  • Support and coach the Content Creator.
About You as the Media & Communications Manager:
  • NCTJ-trained or equivalent degree in media and public relations is highly desirable.
  • Excellent understanding of business, current affairs, policy and politics.
  • Knowledge of how the media works at a local, regional and national level.
  • Significant experience of successfully working in a busy PR and marketing role within a large, complex organisation.
  • Able to engage with and influence people at all levels with demonstrable interpersonal skills.
  • Experience of producing copy for a wide range of publications within agreed timescales.
  • Experience of handling media enquiries and cultivating strong, lasting relationships built on trust and mutual respect.
  • Excellent writing skills including the ability to write for all manner of audiences and situations.
  • Able to work to tight deadlines under pressure while maintaining high attention to detail.
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively, supporting others and working with a team.
  • Creative and challenges tradition with a keen eye for a story and PR opportunity.
  • Full driving licence & access to own transport.
