Job Description

Active SC Clearance RequiredThe Role Our client within the public sector have a contractvacancy for a Network Engineer to help develop and evolve theirservice to meet the fast-changing needs of theirpartners.The successful candidate will need to combine strong technical skills with a consultative approach and work within a team of engineers ensuring services are integrated, delivered, and operated to a high standard.The role will involve working with enterprise networks and developing an understanding of government security guidance to deliver secure network infrastructure services.For this role as well as investigating and resolving 3rd line Network related issues you will be expected to translate and deliver architectural designs into operational infrastructure and network environments.This role requires a strong user focus and an eye for detailunderstanding the technology that is required to facilitate the network & infrastructure, and be able to work with minimal supervision or as part of a larger team. Agile project methodologiesare the main method used within this area.Responsibilities

  • Responsible for third line resolution of IT network infrastructure incidents across the service, involving both physical and virtual network switching, routing and firewall equipment.
  • Responsible for monitoring, alerting and maintenance of the ROSA network equipment across all environments within the RSO and our partner sites worldwide.
  • Ensure that all new components and installations meet or exceed the RSO internal and regulatory requirements.
  • Work with the technical architects and other tech teams to support and make recommendations towards service improvements and implement these solutions.
  • Own responsibility for network changes and implement according to agreed business processes.
  • Monitor trends to be able to proactively respond to issues to support the business needs.
  • Develop the creation of documentation, processes, and policies to ensure necessary governance and reporting is in place.
  • Follow the Technology Development Life Cycle in the development of all products, proactively planning upgrades as appropriate.
  • Assisting more junior team members with learning and development as required.
Experience Essential
  • Experience in a similar network engineering role or as a generalist with a high degree of demonstratable networking experience.
  • Experience with virtualized networking principles and platforms (vmware/Hyper-V).
  • Experience with varied routing, firewall, switching and load balancing vendors.
  • Excellent understanding of Networking Concepts, such as Transmission Control Protocol, Internet Protocol, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, IP Addressing, Variable Length Subnet Masks, Remote Access, cabling systems, wiring topologies, and security.
  • Sound knowledge of LAN, WAN, design and implementation concepts.
  • Clear understanding of IKE, IPSEC and standard routing protocols (OSPf/BGP).
  • Demonstration of network capacity planning, network security principles, and general network management best practices.
Desirable
  • Experience of working with Agile methodologies.
  • Experience of cloud-based infrastructure (AWS/Azure).
Ways of Working
  • Support is provided from offices in East Kilbride, however working remotely from home is the current way of working due to the ongoing pandemic and restrictions.
  • There may be a requirement for occasional travel tooffices in London, notwithstanding the current Government mandated restrictions.
