Job Description

The Company A leading manufacturer of flexible plain and printed film, supplying primarily the industrial, food and medical sectors. Due to the company’s strategic growth plans, they are now looking to recruit a Business Development Manager.Job Title:

  • Business Development Manager - Functional Films
  • Territory:
  • Midlands / South
  • You will drive high margin revenue from sales of functional films across the South West of the UK into new direct end user customers with a primary focus on Blown & Pre-stretch film products
  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver or exceed monthly and annual sales revenue, tonnage, and contribution margin budgets for the specific targeted products
  • Develop detailed knowledge of direct end use markets for Blown & Pre-Stretch film products with focus on major users, covering both manufacturing industries and major retailers / on-line distributors
  • Manage and maintain a robust pipeline process through active prospecting with focus on major volume users in direct end use markets
  • Use CCE 2.0 tools as part of daily work routines and ensure Pre & Post Call plans with Actions are used for all sales calls
  • Maintain accurate, comprehensive and real time records in CRM as detailed during implementation of CRM system
  • Employ a cross-functional approach with key staff (operations/technical/ NPD/sales/Finance/leadership etc) deployed where required to maximise success rate with new opportunities
  • Ensure collaboration with the internal teams (technical, operations, planning, sales, customer service, commercial) as well as with the other parts of the organisation
  • Follow office procedure fully and accurately with particular attention to commercial process / Powerpricer and trial process
  • Stay informed about market opportunities and developments to help leverage competitive advantage, and feedback market intelligence on a regular basis
  • Provide support to colleagues within the Business Development team as required
  • Work with the Sales Director, Category Manager and Commercial Excellence team to ensure that contracts are commercially rigorous
  • Identify and respond to all tendering opportunities related to target opportunities and work with the Sales Director and other stakeholders to win
  • Ensure that selling costs are contained in line with performance and budget
  • Implement price movements as required by the business in conjunction with the Commercial Excellence team to ensure the business sustains its margins at all times
  • Maintain effective reporting processes (weekly, monthly, activity, results, and variances)
  • Ensure that weekly and monthly sales and margin forecasts are submitted accurately and on time
  • Deliver regular feedback regarding market forces and competitor activities
  • Cross-fertilise specialist product knowledge to colleagues in the rest of the sales team, track and deliver to targets as appropriate and agreed.
  • Key Skills & Competencies:
  • Must have previous Flexible Packaging experience
  • Highly results focussed with a winning mindset
  • Deep understanding of business development processes and evidence of robust adherence to these
  • Provable selling skills
  • Ability to close complex long terms deals
  • Value selling and solution selling skills
  • Strong evidence of negotiation skills
  • Solid understanding of technical films and the addressable market
  • Ability to interact effectively at multi-levels
  • Understanding of value chains
  • Effective time management and journey planning
  • Strong presentation skills
  • MS Office skills with a high level of numeracy and Excel skills
  • Strong understanding of general business drivers
  • CRM understanding (SFDC or equivalent)
  • Salary:
  • Up to £45,000 depending on skill set and experience + excellent commission and car.
