Job Description

** Fixed term contract / secondment opportunity for 12 months **We would like to offer an opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic podiatrist to join our multidisciplinary diabetic foot team based at the Norfolk & Norwich University NHS Foundation Trust. We have one fixed term post for 12 months to offer as either a Band 6 or Band 7 podiatrist depending on the successful candidate’s knowledge and experience.This is a really exciting opportunity to join a well-established multidisciplinary diabetic foot team which is one of the largest in the East of England and we see over 700 new patients and 6500 follow-ups per year, all of whom have complex foot disease.What we can offerYou will join a team of seven podiatrists. We can offer real variety in different sub-specialty working alongside consultants’ colleagues in diabetes, microbiology, renal, vascular, plastics, and orthopaedic surgery in both inpatient and outpatient settings.However being based in one of the UK’s leading research hospital the role of a podiatrist can become so much more. We are actively involved in several large multicenter research projects, and publish widely on many aspects of diabetic foot disease. This would give the successful applicant the opportunity to participate in the ongoing research and contribute to the department’s ongoing research strategy.This role offers the opportunity to rotate through dedicated research clinics based at Quadram Institute (our brand new on site multi million pound research and teaching facility), and podiatry renal clinics based at the Jack Prior Dialysis Unit.Why you should choose NorwichWhatever you want in life - wild, open spaces, tranquility, culture, excitement or nightlife, you will find it here. Here you can learn more on life living and working in Norfolk.The successful candidate will work alongside the multidisciplinary team to support the delivery of a high quality, safe and compassionate healthcare service, all staff are expected to act as a role model to others in all aspects of their work and consistently demonstrate NNUH’s ‘PRIDE’ values of People focused, Respect, Dedication, Integrity and ExcellenceBand 6You will work as a member of the diabetic foot team in both inpatient and outpatients treating patients with acute diabetic foot complications. You will experience dedicated medical and surgical clinics and ward rounds. You will be supported to develop skills in the management of infection, specialist debridement and off-loading. You will be involved in clinical research being carried out within the department. The Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital is a teaching Hospital; therefore you will be actively involved in the delivery of departmental education material.Band 7You will be responsible for the day to day running of the diabetic foot service providing specialist outpatient and inpatient podiatry services to patients with acute diabetic foot complications in a busy clinical environment. You work as part of the team in dedicated medical, renal and surgical clinics and ward rounds. You will undertake advanced wound care, casting and pressure assessment techniques. You will be required to order, interpret and advise on the results of microbiology, radiology and laboratory investigations. You will utilise the departments PGDs and policies on the administration of intra-muscular antibiotics. You will help lead clinical research and audit being carried out within the department. The Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital is a teaching Hospital; therefore you will be actively involved in the development and delivery of education material. You will be responsible for the daily clinical supervision of junior team members, podiatrist on rotation or students in outpatients, and other support staff within the team both administrative and clinical.The successful post holder will work the hours over 3 extended days in line with service need. It will include some evening and weekend work. This will be no more frequent that one evening and one weekend day per month.
