** Permanent / Fixed Term / Secondment opportunity **Are you interested in working in a challenging environmentWe are a busy maternity unit looking for enthusiastic motivated people, preferably with existing maternity work experience to join our Team.Our maternity service provides care for approximately 5,500 deliveries per year. We have 7 teams providing community based midwifery services. Our in-patient facilities include 32 postnatal beds including 5 transitional care beds, and 13 antenatal beds. The Delivery Suite has 15 birthing rooms including a birthing pool, 2 obstetric theatres, anaesthetic and recovery rooms, providing a full range of facilities for high dependency care. We have a co-located Midwifery Led Birthing Unit which comprises of four birthing rooms with waterbirth facilities available. We have a commitment to provide one-to-one care to all women in established labour. We are very proud to have achieved and maintained full BFI accreditation.Previous maternity experience is an advantage, but not essential.Under the direction of the Registered Midwife work with all members of the multi-disciplinary team, to provide the highest standards of patient care within maternity services. The Senior Midwifery Care Assistant may be required to assist in any clinical area within the Maternity Department in response to Service demand.Expected working patterns and areas of work for the post holder will include the Postnatal Ward (shifts are 07.00-19.30 hours and 19.00-07.30 hours predominantly, 7 days per week), Community Services (shifts vary slightly, are predominantly 8.00-17.00 Monday-Friday, with occasional evening and weekend work depending on service requirement and team commitments. These positions are dependent on geographical location and current staffing levels of teams working in that area).Our Day Assessment Area, has been funded for 6 hours of Band 3 support, 7 days per week, shifts are currently 09:00 to 15:30 hours. Flexibility may be required as these positions may require review and workload may change as the Area develops.This post will involve supporting midwives in the delivery of care to mothers, babies and their families. Duties will include checking physical wellbeing with blood pressure and urinalysis measurements, infant feeding support, accurate recording and reporting of information and administrative support. Admitting and assessing patients in the Day Assessment Area, venipuncture and IV cannulation (after training). Supervision of less senior staff, leading the junior team and providing learning opportunities may also be required.In addition to undertaking general team routines, you will participate in audit/data collection as required and be competent with the electronic patient systems.See Job description for more details.This post is rotational throughout the Maternity Services areas as indicated above, and will involve shift working covering the service, potentially 24 hours a day, every day of the year, depending on placement of the post holder.
