QIB Extra Microbiologist - Full-Time or Part-TimeThis post is initially for a 12-month fixed-term contract. Salary on appointment will be competitive and dependent on qualifications and experience.Applications are invited for an experienced microbiologist to join QIB Extra.QIB Extra carries out bespoke research for small and large companies within the food, health and allied industries. Working with modern facilities and equipment, and with the back-up of experts at the Quadram Institute Bioscience, QIB Extra offers a widerange of microbiological services to industry. Its microbiologists are involved in the delivery of projects that help customers improve the shelf life of foods, assess food safety, develop new processes and ingredients, and work alongside researchers froma range of disciplines to understand the microbiology of complex food and non-food products.A position has arisen within QIB Extra for an experienced microbiologist to help us deliver on a range of exciting commercial contracts. The successful applicant will undertake confidential microbiological contract research, and will have significant responsibilityfor developing and delivering the projects to which they are assigned. Projects are likely to include undertaking challenge tests of food products and other specialised microbiological analyses as specified by the customer. The role also involves the analysisand interpretation of complex data sets, and the ability to transform these results along with the scientific methodology applied into customer reports that can be understood by both experts and non-experts.Previous experience of working within a Containment Level 2 (CL2) laboratory is essential, while working at CL3 with Clostridium botulinumis highly desirable. The successful candidate would ideally also have a broad microbiological knowledge of bacterial pathogens, preferably foodborne pathogens and experience with challenge testing. Theywill also need to possess the ability to work well both within a team and independently as required, be able to deliver results to specified deadlines, and have significant problem-solving ability.
