A self-motivated and driven Sole Gardener is sought after on a full time and permanent basis for a stunning 8-acre private property near Colchester in Essex. The property consists of six and a half acres of meadow and parkland and one and a half acres of mature garden including herbaceous borders, shrubs, roses, extensive lawns, glasshouse and a vegetable garden to provide the house with fruit and vegetable.The successful applicant will be responsible for the maintenance of the garden to a high horticultural standard as well as enhancing the garden when required. Daily duties will involve all aspects of horticulture and garden management, i.e. lawn management, hedge cutting, planting, pruning, feeding and weeding, basic plant healthcare, plant propagation/glasshouse work and kitchen gardening. The Sole Gardener will have additional duties such as the security and bringing in logs in the winter.Applicants should ideally have a minimum level 2 horticultural qualification, PA1/PA6 spray certificates, chainsaw certificates combined with excellent plant and tree knowledge, excellent technical skills and previous experience working on private estates. You will need to be very organised, able to plan and prioritise your workload and work to a high standard. Experience growing fruit and vegetables as well as specialist pruning is required for the role. Ability to operate a range of garden machinery and good craft skills are also desirable for the role. A full UK driving licence is essential.Accommodation is provided for the successful applicant. The large two-bedroom cottage is located on site next to the vegetable garden. Council tax and water is paid by the employer. All other bills are paid by the tenant.
