Job Description

A leading London Market insurer has an exciting opportunity for an SQL Developer to join a dynamic and growing IT Team.Key Responsibilities

  • Review and analyse reporting requests from end users and/or other stakeholders.
  • Document proposed solutions and timeframe for resolution for presentation to the end user and/or other stakeholders.
  • Ensure data integrity and accuracy across the whole range of system-generated reports and data outputs.
  • Analysis, build and test code in order to meet the business requirements identified.
  • Support and maintain this code through all subsequent cycles of testing.
  • Provide support to all end users through testing phases and identify and/or address any additional arising needs.
  • Develop and document system development procedures and best practices in line with Companys coding standards, procedures and team techniques.
  • Assist with audits and evaluation of applications architecture / infrastructure and operating processes to identify upgrades and improvements through the capability of new or updated technology.
  • Undertake analysis of KPI data in relation to the Companys applications activity and customer service to provide the IT Applications Manager with recommendations for improvements to service.
  • Assist with maintaining applications on a day-to-day basis to ensure optimum levels of system performance and minimal downtime.
  • Provide support and troubleshooting assistance to end users and the rest of the IT team to identify system performance issues and rectify issues.
    • Essential Skills
  • Expertise in database design and development using OLTP and OLAP systems using MS SQL Server 2008R2 or higher including experience of SSIS and SSAS.
  • Create and maintain database objects such as Tables, Views, Stored Procedures & UDFs to support new functionality and optimize existing ones for performance.
  • Follow SDLC standards, source-code management, and release-management procedures.
  • Design and implement ETL processing (SSIS preferred).
  • Make datasets available for reporting purposes.
  • Positive proactive attitude, willing to turn their hand to any problem, and willing to work things out when they fall outside their area of direct expertise.
  • Query tuning to improve performance and reduce complexity/increase supportability
  • Datawarehousing / Star-schema development.
  • Microsoft-MDS installation & configuration.
  • Low level SQL optimisations such as implementing partitioning schemes, and implementing column store indexes
  • Experience with deploying SQL changes in a repeatable & reliable manner (CI/CD experience a big plus)
  • Experience working with source control, deployment, backlog and task management.
  • PowerShell Knowledge
  • SSRS experience especially diagnosing & fixing performance bottlenecks.
  • Experience working with Microsoft Azure SQL & related technologies
  • Experience working in AGILE teams
