Job Description

CK Group are recruiting for a Molecular Biology Scientist to join a leading engineering biology consultancy, to be based at their site in Edinburgh on a permanent basis.About the Company:Our client is a world class engineering biology company with an extensive range of proprietary enabling technologies in microbial strain and mammalian cell-line engineering, protein production, fermentation and bioprocess development. Their cell platforms underpincompetitive bioprocesses implemented worldwide by their customers and collaborative partners to manufacture (bio)pharmaceuticals, enzymes, chemicals, consumer products and sustainable fuels.About the Role:The main purpose of this position is to design and optimise Molecular Biology experiments. You will work collaboratively in a Molecular Biology laboratory, multitasking to reach tight project deadlines.Your responsibilities will include:

  • Experimental design and process optimisation.
  • Showing attention to experimental detail, and carefully recording and presenting methods and results.
  • Presenting experimental findings and writing reports.
  • Generating new ideas and delivering innovative approaches to increase workplace productivity.
About You:To be considered for the position, you should ideally have the following skills and expertise:
  • BSc or MSc in Molecular Biology/Biochemistry/Industrial Biotechnology or similar
  • Knowledge and relevant laboratory experience of recombinant protein purification and analysis methods like affinity, ion exchange and size exclusion chromatography (ideally using the KTA system), SDS-PAGE and Western Blot analysis.
  • Knowledge and relevant laboratory experience in molecular biology techniques such as electroporation, PCR, cloning methods (Gibson Assembly, Golden Gate, traditional endonuclease/ligase reactions, etc.), electrophoresis and aseptic techniques.
  • Industry experience is advantageous
  • Experience working under a Quality Management System is desirable but not essential
  • Experience in microbiology/fermentation settings is desirable but not essential
The Location:The successful candidate will be embedded within a dynamic, sociable team in a lab-based role with flexible working hours.
