Job Description

Young Persons Engagement and Progression CoachMaternity Leave to start but may extend longerTo start 16th August 2021 until 28th Feb 2022South Manchester Full Time 35 hours per week £27459 pro rataRole purposeTo work effectively with youth providers, Career Connect, schools and Pupil Referral Units as well as targeting customers in the Manchester area to engage with young people who are NEET or at risk of becoming NEET. To work with businesses to develop theskills of young people by providing work encounters and opportunities for life, learning and work to improve long term skills attainment for local people, particularly those who are most disadvantaged.Key responsibilities and accountabilities

  • To provide employment and training information, advice, and guidance to facilitate and promote employment, work placements, volunteer, and training opportunities in order to secure opportunities for local residents.
  • Customers will be worked with in groups and on a 1:1 basis, linking in with employers and training providers to progress their journey into work
  • Plan and deliver short employability programmes for young people identified as at risk of becoming NEET including job preparation, interview preparation, understanding employer requirements and personal skills development.
  • Work directly with targeted young people and employers to improve engagement and progress, ensuring exposure to the world of work for young people. This will include employer-based vocational training and tasters, employment trials, work placements, workpairing and volunteering as well as traineeships, apprenticeship, and job opportunities
  • Provide pastoral support for the young people on programme to support them in their journey into work
  • Ensure that all case records are kept fully up to date and project evaluations and outcomes are reported back monthly
  • Work across the Manchester area with some evenings required
Critical knowledge, skills and experience required (must have)
  • Experience of working with vulnerable young people in an a advisory and training role to help them on their journey into work
  • Proven record of ability to effectively engage with hard-to-reach NEET young people
  • Experience of running workshops and activities with young people
  • Coaching abilities including effective questioning, goal setting and on-going support
  • Experience of working on ESF (or similar) projects, paperwork, and systems
  • Experience of managing a caseload whilst maintaining customer service standards
  • Experience of working in partnership with external agencies
  • Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing
  • Excellent negotiation, influencing and advocacy skills with individuals and external organisations
