Job Description

Job title: Kennel SupervisorLocation: Felledge Animal CentreSalary: £25,946 + 4% shift allowanceHours: 35Closing date: 10am Friday 13th March 2020We’re recruiting a Kennel Supervisor to join the team at Felledge Animal Centre to provide care for animals, establish good customer relations and maintain administration procedures in use. RSPCA Felledge Animal Centre is dedicated to finding unwanted, mistreated and abused animals loving permanent homes.This role is fundamental to the allocation and conduct of work within the kennels including supervision and practical training of Animal Care Assistants (ACAs) and volunteers. As Kennel Supervisor you will also be required to assist the Manager and Deputy Manager in the provision of 24 hour cover at the Animal Centre and to stand in for the Deputy Manager as required.What you’ll be doing:

  • Day to day supervision of ACAs and volunteers including the allocation of duties, coaching, training and support to staff and volunteers within the facility
  • Ensuring all health and safety measures and procedures are observed and adhered to by staff, volunteers and the general public within the facility
  • Cooperating with the consulting veterinary surgeon in the examination and treatment of animals including ensuring that treatments and medications are administered in the prescribed quantity at the specified intervals
  • Conducting non-veterinary health assessments, in collaboration with other staff, of animals entering, residing at and leaving the facility, ensuring and checking the completion of all associated reports e.g. Pet Portfolio (history of animal updated daily), Banned Breeds paperwork, and availability of animals for adoption
  • Regularly inspecting equipment within the facility and ensuring the facility and surroundings are maintained in a tidy and presentable standard and secure at all times
  • Identifying and preparing a suitable diet for all animals in the establishment
  • Carrying out routine animal behaviour monitoring/assessment prior to rehoming and implementing behavioural training plans where needed
  • Along with a team of ACAs, providing routine care for dogs including cleaning kennel accommodation, feeding, exercising, grooming etc.
  • You’ll have:
  • Experience of domestic animal care and husbandry from working in the animal care/welfare industry (desirable)
  • Experience of working with the general public
  • Sound literacy and numeracy skills
  • Animal care/welfare qualification (desirable)
  • Proven ability to lead and supervise a team
  • Ability to work unsociable hours
  • Full UK driving license
