Job Description

We are looking for a highly motivated and technically proficient Sustainability Director to join Compass’ largest UK business, working within the sector’s Social Value team to drive our Net Zero 2030 agenda, alinging to Compass Group’s wider climate, socialand nutritional teams across the UKI.The remit of the role is significant, demanding a proactive and strategic approach that will ensure impact is achieved and measurable across a business operating at scale: serving 16.5 million meals annually within healthcare settings and 14.2 million indefence and government.The successful candidate will report into the senior leadership team to help lead and direct a 19,000-strong workforce on sustainability initiatives delivered in partnership with clients across its estate. Most notably 23 NHS hospital trusts and over 350government and defence sites, collectively touching the lives of millions of people.This breadth and reach underlines the many opportunities that exist to drive change at a pivotal moment in time; contributing to the just transition needed across the wider food system and broader economic and political landscape. As such, a primary objectiveof this role is to develop and drive the operational translation of commitments across the business so that practical change is realised within its commercial context. Central to this, is the commitment to reach Climate Net Zero by 2030 and the positive growthopportunity this underlines.The successful candidate will have proven knowledge and sustainability experience, excellent communication skills, direct senior client experience, strong writing skills and a clear knowledge of, and passion for driving measurable change. Energy, positivityand a proactive ‘can-do’ attitude are equally essential.#AD250Main duties and responsibilities

  • To develop, drive and deliver a comprehensive sustainability action plan for the business
  • To demonstrate a clear understanding of the need to marry environmental and commercial considerations
  • To be a knowledgeable point of contact on Compass’ UK&I Net Zero and broader sustainability initiatives
  • To develop an in-depth knowledge of the industry’s wider sustainability services and solutions
  • To deliver the highest standard of client experience via all channels
  • To provide accurate and compelling information on Compass’ Net Zero commitment as we continue to develop our consultancy capability for our clients and prospective partners
  • To work with the UK&I sales and retention teams to regularly explore and identify clients’ and prospects’ needs
  • To provide support in data discovery and research projects aimed at furthering our market-leading position

Sustainability Director -ChertseyCompetitive Salary, 40 hours per weekKey skills, qualifications and experience
  • At least 3 years’ experience working in sustainability.
  • Strong communications skills and clear expertise.
  • Direct senior experience with clients
  • Analytical capability
  • Confidence explaining complex issues in an easy and understandable way
  • Effective management of key stakeholders, internally and externally
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Environmental reporting experience
