Job Description

Our client is seeking a Software Engineer to join their Maritime Communications design and development team. The primary focus of this role involves the design and development of maritime communication capabilities within both the UK/NATO and global contexts,covering existing capabilities and anticipated future advancements.Responsibilities for this role encompass software design, development, and review for a diverse range of systems, ranging from small embedded single processors to multi-processor networked systems. Collaboration with systems and hardware engineers is crucial,as the position requires the creation of multidisciplinary solutions and the definition of software-hardware and software-firmware interfaces. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring that technical requirements are met throughout the design and integration stages, ultimately leading to customer acceptance. Additionally, there may be opportunities for the selected candidate to takeon the role of a Software Lead when additional support is required for projects, bids, and product development activities. Effective communication with Project Managers and Design Authorities will be essential for resolving technical, project, or resource-relatedchallenges and conflicts.The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge and experience in software design and development, with proficiency in high-level programming languages such as C++, C, and Java. Experience with embedded and desktop operating systems such as Linux and Windowsis essential, along with familiarity with tools like Visual Studio and Enterprise Architect.Key Responsibilities:* Architectural and detailed design of software solutions to meet specified requirements.* Collaboration with internal design disciplines and external suppliers to develop successful design solutions.* Consideration of design for manufacture and test to ensure a smooth transition to production.* Software integration of solutions, including fault finding.* Compliance with health and safety requirements and adherence to safe practices and procedures.* Preparation of high-quality documentation and drawings associated with the development lifecycle and configuration.* Assistance and liaison with project teams on software aspects of products and systems.* Occasional offsite support for the installation and maintenance of products and systems.Qualifications and Skills:* Evaluation, mitigation, and management experience of software engineering risks across projects.* Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective internal and external communication.* Ability to multitask and prioritize workload with a hands-on approach.* Natural problem-solving and fault-finding skills.* Stakeholder relationship management skills, both internal and external.* Ability to present complex ideas to various business levels.* Experience working independently and collaboratively as part of a multi-site team.* Innovative and creative thinking.* Willingness to work collaboratively with other companies, including short periods of detached duty when necessary.* Previous experience working with MoD equipment test standards.* Degree-level education in a related engineering discipline (desirable).* Chartered member of a professional institution or working towards Chartered status (desirable).* Ability to obtain higher UK Security Clearance.* Ability to obtain, or already hold, a Full UK driving license.
