Job Description

Interim Chief Operations Officer£500 per day.3 /4 days per week.3 to 6 month assignment (whilst permanent CEO is recruited)Green Park are proud to work with Emmaus Village Carton in their quest to recruit an Interim Chief Operating Officer.CompanyEmmaus Village Carlton is a flagship Emmaus community. It is a respected local charity and social enterprise with a unique self-funded model.Assignment Key Objectives:

  • Ensure that the welfare, safeguarding and development of companions is a priority
  • Lead the contract negotiations for the supply of electricity to the village due to be completed March 2023
  • Manage the Preventative Maintenance Audit programme currently underway and present the results to the board of trustees.
  • Support the environmental enhancement projects (insulation) currently underway
Number of Days & Working Times.With the companions accommodation being within the village the site is effectively 24x7 and Emmaus Village Carlton is operational 7 days per week (trading from Wednesday to Sundays). Saturdays/Sundays are the busiest days of the week on site; it would beexpected that the candidate would make an appearance at the weekend on a regular basis to meet staff and volunteers that do not work during the week. Customer contact is also encouraged and to ensure continuity of management support. It is envisaged that thiswill be a 4 day per week assignment covering the whole of the site operations.Responsibilities
  • Report and be accountable to the Board for the welfare, safeguarding and development of companions
  • Line management of 3 direct reports with overall leadership responsibility of companions, staff and volunteers
  • Attend and champion the operational sub-groups to support collaboration between companions, staff, volunteers and trustees to deliver our plans
  • Report and be accountable to the Board for site management, ensuring the buildings, gardens and playing fields are appropriately insured and maintained.
  • Financial management including annual budget for approval by the Board and all regular reporting
  • Compliance with company and charity law, HMRC, SORP and best practice requirements
  • Oversee policies and procedures to ensure the highest standards of safeguarding are in place at all times
  • Effective and inclusive human resource management which promotes diversity and equality.
  • To work in co-operation with Emmaus UK, Emmaus Europe & International and other Emmaus Communities to maximize the Community members engagement with solidarity in the Emmaus movement.
Personal SpecEssential:
  • Proven experience in a similar role
  • Charity / NfP experience
  • Calm under pressure with track record of effective prioritisation of numerous challenging issues
  • Dynamic and compassionate - able to inspire companions, board, volunteers, and staff alike
  • Demonstrable leadership and team building skills to align companions, staff and volunteers around Vision, Values and Strategy.
  • Demonstrable ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Experience of strategic and operational financial management including budgeting and cost control and an understanding of Housing Benefit / Universal Credit.
