The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) and Inspire People are partnering together to bring you an exciting opportunity for a Technical Architect to oversee the technical architecture, services, and theirdesign from inception to completion, working in a primary tech stack of Python/Django, Nodejs/React. Salary between £67,000 to £83,000 (including allowances) plus excellent Civil Service benefits. Salary is dependent on location and technical skills as assessedat interview. Flexible, hybrid working from London, Cardiff, Darlington, Edinburgh or Belfast.DBTs Digital, Data and Technology team develops and operates tools, services, and platforms that enable the UK government to provide world leading support to businesses in the UK and overseas.You will be an experiencedTechnical Architect who in your day-to-day role will:* Provide technical leadership and mentoring to the development team.* Design services & system integration, selecting technologies to meet user needs.* Build and maintain technical roadmaps.* Facilitate integrations and reuse with other development teams.* Rapidly build prototypes to demonstrate and test architectural patterns.* Document, communicate and manage the evolution of services and infrastructure through architecture decision records.* Advise product managers on the estimated effort and technical implications of user stories.* Form relationships with external suppliers.* Be accountable for the technical strategy of a portfolio.Essential Skills and Experience as a Technical ArchitectYou should be able to demonstrate essential skills and experience of:* Leadership.* Designing services used at scale using modern back & front-end technologies.* Being responsible for technical teams and delivering user-focused services in multi-disciplinary agile teams.* An ability to build consensus between diverse and often conflicting interests, to achieve agreement on technical plans.* Introducing practices such as TDD, continuous integration, continuous delivery, and DevOps to teams.* Working with cloud infrastructure and services.* Knowledge of open-source principles and technologies.* Designing secure systems and awareness of emerging security issues.* Communicating with both technical and non-technical audiences.Desirable Skills and Experience as a Technical ArchitectWhile not essential, it would be ideal if you have demonstrable skills and experience of:* Hands on experience developing web services using Python/Django and/or NodeJS/React.* View of technology as an enabler of great digital services.* An eagerness to influence how digital services are delivered.* Using cloud technologies and extract, transformation, and load (ETL) tools.* Managing stakeholders.* Working in a dynamic organisation with changing requirements.* Initiating projects, workshops to gather user needs and building prototypes.* Working with GOV.UK PaaS and other GOV.UK GaaP components.In return, you can expect a planned, transparent progression with learning and development tailored to your role, an environment with flexible working options and a culture encouraging inclusion and diversity, plus the following benefits:* Salary of £67,000 to £83,000 (including allowances) including annual allowance depending on location and experience* Flexible, hybrid working from London, Cardiff, or Darlington.* Annual leave starting at 25 days per annum plus statutory bank holidays rising to 30 days after 5 years of service* An excellent Civil Service pension scheme.If you are an experienced Technical Architect or Lead Software Developer looking to enhance your career and make a difference across a function that will make a real difference to the UK economy, then apply today or contact Tom McNeill at Inspire People incomplete confidence for further information.
