Job Description

Im looking for Chartered/Principal Bridge Engineer with highways scheme experience for a large multi-disciplinary consultancy in Cardiff.As a Principal Engineer you will assist in the development of an established bridge highway engineering team. They are looking for candidates with large county council, Highways England or key D&B scheme experience. You will manage/lead and develop a teamof 6 engineers/technicians to deliver key bridge schemes for this client. Schemes can range from £150K footbridge for a county council framework to a £150M Highways England major bridge design scheme, with D&B schemes and major National Highways Bridges alreadyin the Pipeline.The office is in city centre of Cardiff and close to all major transport links. This consultancy has offices across the UK, so if Cardiff isnt suitable there may well be a spot for you elsewhere.Youd be joining a team of 18 engineers and technicians which has large growth plans across the UK. Which will be demanding and require a strong skill set. The main work will be focused around bridge feasibility studies, new build bridge design, and strengthening/refurbishmentdesign of pre-existing bridges.Create Feasibility studies and other technical reports

  • Bridge analysis
  • Bridge assessments
  • Detailed design of new-build and refurbishment / strengthening schemes
  • Implementing Structural Health Monitoring systems
  • Bridge Inspections
  • Health and safety documentation
  • Specifications and contract documents
  • Project management
  • Ensure compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, particularly the CDM regulations.
  • Supervise, mentor and develop team members from graduate engineers and technicians through to civil engineers
  • Represent the structures team in multi-disciplined project teams
  • Contribute to meetings with clients and other relevant stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with relevant technical standards
Senior Bridge Engineer Requirements:
  • Chartered Engineer status (MICE, MIStructE or equivalent)
  • Bridge engineering experience (design of new and / or maintenance of existing bridges)
  • Strong understanding of structural behaviour and experience in analysis software such as MIDAS or SuperStress
  • The ambition to transition to Net Zero through effective design and asset management
  • Good communication, both written and verbal, and interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of current Health and Safety Legislation and CDM Regulations
  • Ability to develop sustainable designs with buildability and maintenance in mind
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Detailed knowledge of relevant codes and standards such as Eurocodes, DMRB
  • Ability to work independently
