Job Description

Hours: Full time FT (35 hours per week) and Adhoc Day and Night ShiftsLocation: Cardiff, Bridgend, Llanelli, Swansea, Haverfordwest, Bassaleg, Treharris, Cwm Taff, Wrexham and RhyaderAbout usWeve supported people and communities across Wales since 1918. We existed before the NHS in Wales and provided the earliest medical support to those who were sick or injured.Since March 2020, weve worked closely with Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust (WAST) and NHS Wales, increasing our capacity, and developing new innovative ways of working to assist and relieve the overwhelming pressure on the frontline brought about by COVID-19.Weve helped by continuing to provide care and support to people when theyve needed it most. This includes caring for people at Wales field hospitals, being there for people at vaccination centres and strengthening our Urgent Care Support within the ambulanceservice.Now, in 2022, we continue performing a major role in strengthening community resilience and ensuring people are trained in first aid so they can be the difference between a life lost and a life saved.We fulfil key front-line roles to support vulnerable people, in addition to offering the opportunity for people from all backgrounds to develop their personal skills and confidence to support our charitable and income generating services whilst assistingtheir own career development.As a charity, we partner with the Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust and NHS Health Boards, providing ambulance support services in addition to delivering our Falls Response Service, helping people whove fallen at home, back to their feet.We maintain our reputation as being the leading organisation to deliver first aid training to both businesses and local communities, including schools, throughout Wales.We also give support to the people of Wales through:

  • Medical duties at events (e.g. caring for supporters as Wales won their 10th Grand Slam)
  • Community based divisions
  • Falls Response Service
  • Community First Responders (CFR)
Our focus is developing new, innovative services to help us achieve our mission of saving lives and enhancing the health and wellbeing of communities in Wales.Were undergoing an extensive and exciting programme of modernisation and forward thinking; encompassing a review of our existing services, financial and workforce models and were developing a rejuvenated culture aligned to our core vision and values toimprove our overall people experience.The opportunityTo help us achieve our mission of saving lives and enhancing the health and wellbeing of communities in Wales, were offering this exciting opportunity to join our team as a Falls Response AssistantThe Falls Response Assistant is responsible for providing a high level of quality and effective care to patients within the community. Under the direction of the Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust (WAST) or other Clients this role will be responding to fallsresponse or welfare calls in a timely manner.The Falls Response Assistant will attend patients and service users and act in accordance with St John Ambulance Cymru policies and procedures. The assistant is responsible for providing a patient assessment at scene, and then the provision of treatmentor support in line with the trained clinical scope of practice or contract requirements.The service operates 365 days a year and some of our Falls cars operate 24 hours a day.Our healthcare services has seen unprecedented growth over the past eighteen months with closer-than-ever partnering with Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust (WAST) and the NHS Health Boards through our on-going development of both our Falls Response Serviceand our mental health services support.You will receive:

What youll need to be successfulTo achieve in the above role, were looking for caring and compassionate people, who can work in a variety of settings. You should be able to work independently, follow procedures but also be able to think out of the box as and when situations arise.Youll have excellent communication skills and be able to communicate with a variety of people. Youll need to be able to complete paperwork to exacting standards and deliver a high-quality patient experience and ensure customer satisfaction at all times.You will have a minimum of 2 years driving experience and must hold a valid Full UK Driving licence with no more than 6 penalty points. You should have eligibility to work and live in the United Kingdom.We are particularly keen to hear from people who have experience with working with people disabilities or over the age of 50. Applications are also welcome from applicants who can speak in Welsh and English.The post holder will need to be able to work calmly and effectively in difficult situations.Our healthcare services team are open 365 days a year and cover a varied number of shifts days, night, weekends and bank holidays.
