Job Description

Manufacturing ScientistLocation - CambridgeshireSector - Biology / Gene SynthesisSalary - £28,000 - £32,000 dependent on experience and interview performance.Full time, permanent roleOur client is a leading gene synthesis company based in Cambridgeshire, offering an exciting opportunity in their synthetic DNA manufacturing team. This position is a great opportunity for someone to develop their existing laboratory skillset, working amongstmultiple teams within the research and manufacturing departments. The role is aimed at individuals with previous experience in biology or chemistry laboratories, experience in working with DNA/RNA purification systems and handling DNA/RNA, with at least aBSc in biochemistry or a related life science field.This position is ideal for someone with previous industry experience - this can be in employment, placements, or internships.The RoleThis position is suitable for BSc/MSc graduates in biochemistry/molecular biology or a similar subject, with prior expertise in DNA/RNA purification systems and handling DNA/RNA in a biology or chemistry laboratory environment.PhD or PostDoc level applications will not be considered.As a Scientist, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Working in the manufacturing team, purifying and analysis synthetic DNA using gel electrophoresis, AKTA, protein purification, and other general molecular biology techniques
  • Handling and quantification of DNA & RNA samples
  • Utilizing DNA & RNA to carry out screening & optimization experiments
  • Execute high-quality projects according to project plans,
  • Ensuring experimental data is analysed and interpreted effectively to detect and correct problems in experiments,
  • Collaborating across disciplines to support the client’s R&D functions,
  • Ensuring equipment is correctly operated and maintained, in accordance with SOPs and health and safety guidelines,
  • Keeping detailed records of all experiments and results carried out in the laboratory.
Skills and Experience NeededAn ideal candidate will have:
  • BSc/MSc or equivalent in biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related life science field (essential)
  • Previous industry experience working in a biology or chemistry laboratory (essential)
  • Proficiency working with DNA/RNA purification systems (essential)
  • Previous experience with protein purification (essential)
  • Experience in several of the following biological analytical techniques: gel electrophoresis, nucleic acid quantification (i.e. Nanodrop), SDS-PAGE, PCR/qPCR and western blotting. (essential)
  • Existing right-to-work in the UK (essential)
  • Expertise in using AKTA systems in protein purification (desirable)
