Job Description

We are seeking to recruit a full-time Maintenance Carpenter, competent in most trades, but with their main trade in carpentry, to join our busy Maintenance department.In brief, you will carry out all aspects of property maintenance, internally and externally, including the safe use of ladders, scaffolding, and access equipment for working at height. You will carry out method and risk assessments to ensure safe workingpractices, in accordance with current Health & Safety Legislation and work safely to acceptable industry standards. Fire door set installation certified is preferred, but not essential as training will be given.Other aspects (not exhaustive) of the role are:

  • To carry out all repairs to the fabric of the building, internally, externally and within the grounds of the properties
  • To be the company’s subject matter expert on the installation of fire door sets and be competent and certified to carry all required fire door set installation works.
  • To carry out all repairs to furniture, white goods, fixtures, and fittings within the properties
  • To maintain a good van stock level of regularly used items.
  • Carry out method and risk assessments to meet all current Health & Safety Legislation requirements, before, during and after work is completed.
  • To arrange delivery/collection of materials from suppliers, in the most cost-effective manner
  • Handling, planning, and preparing work in an efficient manner.
  • Unblock foul water drainage systems, including unblocking sinks.
  • Travel between locations in the most cost effective and timely manner
  • Ensure that all tools, equipment, and machinery are correctly maintained and serviced, and that they are kept in good and safe working order.
  • Keeping the company van clean and tidy, making sure all equipment and materials are stowed safely.
  • Communicating with Tenants to ensure they are kept fully informed of the work being carried out in or around their homes.
  • Be available to work overtime, at busy times.
  • Assist with deliveries to The Grange Store and with deliveries to any Commercial, Residential or Student properties, owned or managed by ourselves.
  • Maintain the company van, making sure that it is legally and mechanically sound.
  • When Grand Master Keys are not in use, after the working day, they should be stored at the key holders’ home.
  • All issued cards (credit, fuel etc) are to be kept safe and PIN numbers are to be kept separate.
  • Attend Health and Safety and other courses, to maintain a high level of training to enable work to be carried out safely, efficiently, and effectively.
  • To keep accurate weekly timesheets, monthly property logs, monthly vehicle check sheets, monthly vehicle mileage sheets and job tickets.
  • Ensure completed paperwork is returned to The Maintenance Office in a timely fashion.
  • To attend Department and Company meetings
To succeed in this role, you will ideally hold a City & Guilds or NVQ in one or more of the following: Plumbing, Heating, Electrical or Carpentry, and have gained a number of years’ experience in a similar sector. You will be enthusiastic, conscientious,and professional, as well as being able to work independently and as part of a team.
