Job Description

Jonathan Lee recruitment are looking for a Embedded Software / Firmware Team Lead for a global Telecom company based in Cambridge (Hybrid). The roles details are below:ResponsibilitiesYour Role This is a Player-Coach role, in addition to line management duties, the candidate will also strongly contribute to the development of real-time software components, resolving issues and trialling new development tools and techniques.Your Day to Day Our customer base includes many different industries and markets around the world. Our complete LTE solutions have been developed specifically for users in multiple sectors to face their critical communications challenges.There is no such thing as a typical day here at Sepura. You will be supported by your manager and team, as well as collaborating with other departments across the business. Activities you will be responsible for include:

  • Managing and coordinating a talented pool of Device Driver software engineers to provide a high-quality hardware abstraction layer that enables the software platform to support multiple products.
  • Guiding and supporting the team in continuous improvement to realise the maximum potential of the team.
  • Ensure that the skills and experience of the Device Driver team are consistent with the technological and business needs of current and future road mapped Sepura products.
  • Reporting of team progress, successes, priorities, issues and threats.
  • Influence the Project and Development leadership team so that individuals skills and career aspirations are considered during resource allocation.
  • Work with peer group to improve processes and drive continuous improvement in terms of both efficiency and effectiveness across the whole of the software department.
  • Appraising staff according to the performance review process (sets and measures against Objectives) and agrees own objectives (other than project work) with Development Heads and subsequently reviews them periodically.
  • Ensures that all work is completed in accordance with the relevant quality standards.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting and maintaining device drivers and low-level software components.
  • Investigation and resolution of low-level software faults, including scheduling issues, data corruption, resource leakage etc.
  • Trialling, integrating and implementing development tools for debugging, profiling, memory leak detection, test automation etc.
What you Need to SucceedExperience and Skills
  • Embedded Linux Kernel or bare-metal/RTOS user-space software development experience of a commercially released product is essential.
  • Excellent debugging skills. Enjoys investigating and solving challenging real-time platform issues.
  • Experience with development tools for debugging, profiling, code coverage, memory leak detection etc.
  • Excellent knowledge of the C programming language.
  • Experience with real-time, multi-processor, multi-threaded, event-driven software.
  • Familiarity with working with a hardware development team (interpretation of schematics and practical knowledge of debugging using logic analysers and oscilloscopes).
  • Experience of using configuration management and fault tracking tools.
  • People Management, leadership, influencing and reporting skills.
  • Innovative with proven ability to generate new ideas and approaches to problems.
  • Tenacity to probe issues to understand their root causes.
  • Good analytical, numerical, written and verbal communications skills.
  • Able to apply initiative when required and will take ownership for the achievement of their own activities.
