Job Description

Applications are invited from qualified, HCPC-registered Practitioner Psychologist (Clinical/Counselling) for a full time (permanent) 8a post.An exciting opportunity has arisen to for an 8a Practitioner Psychologist to join the developing Tier 3 Complex Emotional Needs service (known internally as the Gwylfa Therapy Service /Hiraeth Intensive Case Management team). The service aims to deliver enhanced support and interventions to individuals who are not successfully engaged or treated by Tier 2 services (CMHT provision), who present with a high level of risk and/or impairment and have frequent use of unplanned contacts and crisis/acute care.The successful candidate will join a friendly, highly skilled and enthusiastic multidisciplinary team who are based at St Cadocs Hospital in Caerleon, Gwent. It is an exciting time to be joining the service as we develop a responsive and flexible approach to the Tier 3 service which is keen to prioritise repatriation and the prevention of long-term hospital placements far from home. We seek to offer flexible, intensive and person-centred community based interventions. We have good links with our local acute inpatient units and the successful candidate would offer dedicated input to the local female locked rehabilitation unit (Bellevue) as part of their role.The post holder would be involved in delivering the following:

  • flexible approach to working and creatively to offer psychological therapy/interventions for individuals who are in the contemplative stage of change. This would include individuals who have not been able to benefit from options provided by the CMHT and/or when the CMHT options are not intensive/flexible enough.
  • Deliver interventions which focus on promoting and maintaining engagement and allow for collaborative risk management plans consistent with a philosophy of shared care.
  • Provide longer term relationally informed psychological therapy (e.g. Schema Therapy/ MBT) beyond the scope of what is currently provided by the CMHT.
  • Support the delivery of a psychological informed consultation service.
  • Aid transitions which include both step down and repatriation.
  • Support development of comprehensive MDT formulations and interventions for people with complex needs.
  • Offer input to the established teaching and training of health board staff aimed at increasing knowledge, skill and compassion in working with individuals with complex, severe and enduring distress and mental health needs.
  • We are a friendly, psychology-led team who are passionate about what we do and how we do it. We are supported within a thriving Adult Psychology Speciality and there is opportunity for regular contact with psychologists and psychological therapists from across the Health Board. There is a monthly adult psychology speciality meeting and a quarterly Gwent wide psychology meeting (with colleagues from all specialities across the Health Board). We value the importance of having a safe and secure base to work from which is why we appreciate access to free, readily available parking, having your own desk and access to an onsite canteen set within the beautiful grounds of St Cadocs Hospital in Caerleon.
