Job Description

My client Walsall Council are looking for an experienced Tree Surgeon to join the team based at Clean and Green services in Brownhills.Main purpose of the job role:

  1. To carry out a range of tree work including planting, crown raising, urban pruning, reductions, thinning, dismantling, felling and stump grinding, to a high standard and in line with industry best practice and BS3998.
  2. To operate and provide services in accordance with the Urban Forestry Strategy’ for the Council. Maintenance of the tree risk for the council’s tree stock. Walsall’s tree stock as individual trees, groups and woodlands (as in the Urban Forestry Strategy)
  3. Ensure that maintenance of our trees is managed in a professional manner undertaking appropriate works giving due consideration to health and requirements of the trees.
Person Spec: Arborist specific skills and abilities:
  • Ability to work confidently at heights for long periods.
  • Ability to work within Health and Safety at Work guidelines e.g. Chapter 8, Services avoidance.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently as part of a team.
  • Ability to carry out routine machinery maintenance e.g. chainsaw, chipper, stump grinder including hand tools.
  • A good level of physical fitness
  • Stamina for holding equipment, such as a chainsaw
  • An aptitude for working outdoors
    • The forestry and arboricultural industries recognise that good health and safety practice is vital for operators and business. Candidates must have reached agreed standards of competence;
  • CS30 (201/202) - chainsaw maintenance and cross cutting
  • CS31 (203) - Fell small trees
  • CS32 (301) - Fell medium trees
  • CS38 (206) - Climb tree and perform aerial rescue
  • CS39 (308) - Chainsaw rope and harness
  • CS40 (307) - Pruning
  • NPTC - Chipper Operations
