Job Description

Head of Analytical Chemistry Brixham, Devon Great salary and package on offer - details on application Our client is a provider of high quality and cost effective ecotoxicology and environmental analytical chemistry services on a global basis. They work with agrochemical, pharmaceutical, fine chemical and biocide industries. They have state of the art facilitieswhich are equipped with a range of processing and analysis capabilities. They are seeking a Head of Analytical Chemistry.What youll do: The role will be responsible for analytical delivery across various projects. The main techniques used within our client being LCMS, GCMS, MS, HPLC and physiochemical analysis.You will have 10 direct reports and this team is expected to grow. The role will at times be client facing and involve you discussing project progression and discussing and presenting on sometimes complex issues that arise during the course of the project.You will be responsible for managing the individuals and the team and have capital expenditure (Capex) responsibilities.The roleholder will also be working in a business thats structure gives them great ability to make the key decisions needed and deliver on priorities of the team.Summary of key responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership for the Analytical Chemistry department by:
  • Developing and delivering on an agreed strategic plan (1-3 years) to support the delivery of analytical chemistry capabilities
  • Develops, mentors, coaches and strengthens analytical chemistry staff including selection, hiring, performing annual reviews and other aspects of performance management
  • Reviews, evaluates and directs all aspects of analytical chemistry capabilities including instruments, technical platforms, capacity levels, staff skills and numbers. Provides input and reporting on capital planning, expenditure and maintenance.
  • Collaborates with other departmental scientific and administrative leadership roles to ensure an integrated and comprehensive environmental laboratory testing services offering is delivered to customers
  • Is responsible for scientific and operational performance of the Analytical Chemistry department including (but not limited to):
  • Directing and coordinating laboratory assignments, schedules, studies and tasks
  • Meeting quality, time and financial targets,
  • Day to day management of analytical chemistry staff,
  • Maintaining regulatory compliance
  • Other departmental aspects as required
  • Supports commercial matters as a subject matter expert.
  • Responds to customers, understanding their requirements, is able to maintain a positive relationship and help strengthen and grow the business relationship
  • Oversees and is accountable for administrative management topics including budgets, forecasting, reporting, monitoring performance and meeting KPI indicators.
  • Providing expert technical advice to clients, leading larger and more complex projects.
Your background: We are seeking someone who will bring a strong background in leadership in analytical chemistry, with backgrounds such as DMPK and ADME-Tox being of interest due to the companies activities. However, this background can also be from a field like food, beverage,fine chem, pharma or energy. The main points are a strong technical familiarity with analytical chemistry and team leadership experience. This role will be 100% based on site in Brixham, Devon and we offer a fantastic salary and package to allow for relocationto the region. Qualifications, Skills and Experience
  • Experience of dynamic leadership & developing high performing teams.
  • Bachelors degree at a minimum (BSc) with relevant scientific work-related experience
  • Demonstrated competency in a variety of analytical chemistry techniques and activities including method development and validation.
  • Experience of or ability to thrive in a commercial, fast paced & highly collaborative environment.
