Job Description

Youth and Community Groups Development OfficerAn exciting position has become available for a full-time Youth and Community Groups Development Officer based in Brierley Hill. The successful candidate will earn £27,741 (aligned to NJC SO1).You will be passionate about working with children, young people and their families and enabling new and creative opportunities for their involvement in services and activities.Role Requirements

  • Experience of working with or in youth involving organisations.
  • You possess a strong and practical understanding of safeguarding policy and practice and are up to date with current legislation.
  • You understand and can teach how to make referrals using early help and safeguarding thresholds.
  • You have theoretical and practical knowledge of setting up and running different types of voluntary and community organisations.
  • You have experience of working within the voluntary and community sector and have good up to date working knowledge of the voluntary sector challenges and opportunities.
  • You have knowledge and experience in at least 3 of the following areas
  1. Community development
  2. Safeguarding (children and young people, vulnerable people)
  3. Project and business planning
  4. Financial management for voluntary and community organisations
  5. Data protection
  6. Health and safety
  7. Employing and managing staff
  8. Income generation options for voluntary and community organisations
  • Knowledge and experience of partnership working with public, private and voluntary sector organisations and supporting local partnerships
  • Excellent facilitation and collaboration skills
  • Ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team
  • You are comfortable with ambiguity and able to thrive in a fluid environment while recognising constraints which partner and stakeholder organisations work within
  • You have experience of successfully coordinating projects in challenging environments
  • You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • You are skilled at conveying information and ideas
  • You are a clear communicator with good report writing and presentation skills, capable of constructing and delivering clear ideas and concepts concisely and accurately for a range of audiences
  • You can plan, prioritise and carry out your work in a flexible way and can meet competing deadlines. You are accustomed to working in teams and do this effectively.
  • You know how to use a range of software to produce written documents, spreadsheets, presentations. You can effectively manage communication by email and you are comfortable using collaborative online tools (for example WhatsApp, Twitter, Facebook, usingtext editors such as Word/Pages and other message apps.

  • Take an asset based approach to recognise and develop a young individuals ability and potential to use their strengths to respond to shared challenges and issues.
  • Promote new ways of working that develop platforms for involvement and collaboration which encourage learning, inclusivity and diversity.
  • Liaise with partners to prepare the environment and conditions for successful participation, collaboration and the involvement of children.
  • Inspire young people and youth involving organisations to be expressive and innovative in their ideas and encourage them to see their ideas through to fruition and to a high standard.
  • Doing whatever it takes to raise aspiration and build confidence in young adults to reach their goals.
