Job Description

Summary Are you passionate about people, heritage and nature We’re looking for a Volunteering & Community Officer to work with the East Devon Countryside team, based in Branscombe. The team manage a diverse range of sites between Exmouth and Branscombe includingManor Mill, Loughwood Meeting House and 7 miles of South West Coast Path.The Volunteering & Community Officer will focus on increasing volunteer involvement with the running of Manor Mill, the 19th century working watermill, by leading on recruiting, managing and supervising our volunteers. This role will deepen community engagementwith our conservation work in the beautiful Branscombe and east Devon landscape. What its like to work here East Devon is a varied property, caring for some exceptional places. The areas we care for in East Devon are very varied. A mix of long stretches of coast between Exmouth and Branscombe, covering around 750 hectares, small inland areas of important greenspaces for local communities, and historic sites and monuments.The coastal properties of East Devon Countryside are characterised by their cliffs, undercliffs and deep, wooded coombes.Branscombe, nestling at the junction of three valleys is a classic example of an East Devon coastal village, where the Trust owns awater mill, forge and former bakery. The post is based here, in the East Devon Countryside office in the heart of the picturesque village. What youll be doing As our Volunteering and Community Officer, youll be supporting the wider team by exploring and building links with the local community. You’ll help to make this a flexible, positive and inclusive place for partners, community groups and current and futurevolunteers to get involved.Deepening relationships with existing and new audiences, you’ll develop new ways of working together. You’ll also help to hone the skills our teams need to welcome and work with all kinds of people.You’ll be responsible for the day-to-day management of the volunteers who look after Manor Mill and will help the team to care for the historic fabric of the building and keep the mechanisms in good working order under the guidance of expert millwrights.Using your passion for history, nature and people, you’ll help engage different audiences in all aspects of our work.There will be some weekend and evening work, working on a rotating basis in the summer months.   • comfortable with IT skills (Microsoft Office), and managing budgets
