Job Description

Mechanical Design Engineer Bolton Up to £38,000 Progressive Engineering and an Engineering Leader in Heavy Engineered Systems for Regulated Industries are looking to recruit a Mechanical Design Engineer for their Bolton Site, owing to succession planning and project workload for 2024-2025+. Based in Bolton and reporting into the Mechanical Design Manager, the Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for the concept & detailed mechanical design of Heavy Engineered Projects (including the production of Customer GA drawings and DFM output, including Assembly Drawings, Fabrication Drawings/ Output, Bill of Materials& As-Built drawings).In addition, the Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Production of concept and detailed design deliverables, in accordance with all relevant company standards and procedure(s), to meet customer/ project demand.
  • Ensure all designs consider on-site or sub-contracted manufacturing capabilities.
  • Design using iLogic templates for Standard and Bespoke products.
  • 3D Modelling of bespoke products in Autodesk Inventor pending project demand; including all associated output in accordance with company procedure.
  • Production of 2D General Arrangement drawings from 3D Models to company standard, for customer approval.
  • Production of detail drawings for assembly, fabrication, and as-builts.
  • Produce BOMs for issue to production or implementation into MRP.
  • Responsible for self-checking of GAs and 3D models prior to release to Engineering Department checker(s).
  • Maximise change capture within the department. Ensure all change is captured on each project.
Qualification & Experience Required for Mechanical Design Engineer role:
  • HND or Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar (Automotive Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering etc)
  • Mechanical Design experience in heavy engineered / mechanical handling / static structures that include industrial sheet steel / steel fabrication / welded structures.
  • Prior 3D Design experience (ideally using Autodesk 3D Inventor, 2D AutoCAD and Autodesk Vault)
  • Ability to use Ansys FEA software is desirable.
  • Ability to program templates using iLogic/ Visual Basic is desirable.
  • Generation of hand and software-based calculations.
  • Understanding of steel plate manufacturing principals and constraints, including laser cutting, weld limitations and press machinery.
  • Ability to write reports and specifications.
