Job Description

Job Title: Mechanical Maintenance TechnicianLocation: Blackwood, South WalesSalary: Circa £38,000 rising to £40,500 within 12 monthsHours: 37.5 hours per week, 3 shift patternYolk recruitment are working with a leading manufacturer of packaging products, such as boxes, trays, and containers. They have been in business for over 50 years and have a strong reputation for quality and customer service. The company is committed toproviding a safe and healthy working environment for all of its employees.Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the maintenance of all plant and equipment at the companys Blackwood facility. This includes preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and predictive maintenance. The goal is to keep all equipment in good working order and to prevent breakdowns.
  • Ensure that all maintenance work is carried out in a safe and efficient manner. This includes following all safety procedures and using the proper tools and equipment. The goal is to prevent injuries and to keep maintenance costs down.
  • Recruit, train, and develop maintenance staff. This includes finding qualified candidates, providing training, and evaluating performance. The goal is to build a strong and competent maintenance team.
  • Prepare and manage maintenance budgets. This includes estimating costs, tracking expenses, and adjusting as needed. The goal is to ensure that maintenance costs are within budget.
  • Liaise with other departments, such as production and engineering, to ensure that maintenance requirements are met. This includes communicating with other departments about maintenance needs, coordinating maintenance schedules, and resolving any issuesthat arise. The goal is to ensure that the companys production is not disrupted by maintenance issues.
  • Maintain records of all maintenance work carried out. This includes keeping records of work orders, parts used, and labour hours. The goal is to have a record of all maintenance work that has been done and to be able to track maintenance costs over time.
  • Ensure that all health and safety regulations are adhered to. This includes following all safety procedures, using the proper personal protective equipment (PPE), and conducting regular safety inspections. The goal is to prevent injuries and to create asafe working environment for all employees.
Skills and Experience:
  • NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Experience of working in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience of using PLCs and other control systems
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
