Job Description

Nustaff Recruitment have been instructed by a leading power distribution company to lead the search for an engineering intern. This is a 12 months fixed term contract which will be project based, measuring the companys carbon footprint for materials andresources used in R&D.Job SummaryAs an ISO 14001 audited company, our client looks towards sustainability as one of the values that underpins the business. The placement will provide a method to calculate a products embodied carbon footprint, to satisfy the reporting needs of the customersand to provide a measure of the sustainability of the products. This will be used as an aid to develop future products with a lower embodied or whole-life carbon footprint.Objectives

  • Gain an understanding of lifecycle assessments and embodied carbon footprint calculation methods, using tools such as CIBSE TM65
  • Calculate the embodied carbon footprint for the main products within the companys portfolio using a recognised methodology.
  • Document the findings in the form of a technical report for each product, which is suitable for issuing to customers and other interested parties such as OFGEM
  • Develop a suitable procedure for to enable the future use of the same calculation methodology by the business.
Project TimelineMonths 1-3:Research and review the appliable industry standards, the different calculation methods and sources of information. With support from the Technical Lead, select and adopt the most appropriate method using robust and reliabledata sources.Months 4-6:Gather data on the first product and sort data into suitable material categories by reviewing CAD models (Solidworks and Pro Engineer) and other information sources. Perform embodied carbon calculations and produce a technicalreport, identifying all assumptions made, for review and approval by the Technical Lead.Months 7-9:Review the method used and make any improvements. Continue gathering data, performing calculations and preparing reports on the products which have been identified.Months 10-12:Produce a written procedure to allow the same method to be consistently applied within the business in future.Essential Requirements
  • Engineering background (minimum degree qualification)
  • Proficient in use of Solidworks (CAD)
