As East Lancs NHS Trust is the regional unit for hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery, we take a range of patients from across the North West, undergoing major surgery such as Whipples and liver resections. C14B also takes a variety of colorectal patients and other general surgical patients too. It is an opportunity for an experienced registered nurse to further develop their career and support our developing team. If you are hard- working, reliable and ready for a challenge, this could be the job for you.General duties will include undertaking the role of co-ordinator to organise and co-ordinate the shift, in the absence of the ward manager. Be responsible for delivering high quality, personalised care for a variety of surgical patients. Have a solid knowledge base of complex surgical patients. Be familiar with TPN, epidural, central/Hickman/PICC line care. Be able to complete audits and quality measuring tools in line with Trust policies and expectations. Be able to administer medications via a variety of routes. Be able to identify a deteriorating patient and to take appropriate action. To be involved in all aspects of patient care. To liaise with other members of the MDT and Doctors to ensure patients receive the optimal level of nursing care. Be a mentor and guide for newly qualified staff nurses and support colleagues on the ward. To promote and encourage staff development, both self and others to enable staff to further their knowledge base. To attend all required learning and training in line with mandatory and ward specific needs. Participate in and promote service development.We are looking for an enthusiastic and positive person to join our team, who is interested in surgical nursing and is flexible, hard- working and approachable. You must be an excellent communicator and be able to work using your own initiative as well as part of a developing team. Adaptable, trust-worthy and honest are also positive requirements.
