Job Description

Salary: £23,000.00-£26,000.00 per yearSHIFTS BETWEEN: 7:30 AM TO 6PMWORKING DAYS :- 6 DAYS A WEEKSALARY :- 10.44 to 11.50 pounds per hour depending upon experience (£23,000 - £26,000 per year)JOB PURPOSETo be part of my clients nursery team providing a safe, caring, inclusive, active learning environment for children from 3 months to five in line with Government guidance and current legislation.To support and enable parents/carers to actively participate in joint planning and decision making to meet their individual childs needs.To participate in interagency working for the benefit of children and familiesMAIN RESPONSIBILITIESBe an active member of a multi-disciplinary team of staff, communicating and working together to create an environment to support the needs of each child and family attendingMaintain a healthy and safe working environmentPromote and support the safeguarding of children and their familiesBe a key person to allocated children, supporting their admission and transition through the care and education provided, undertaking home visits under supervision, writing developmental reports and the sharing of information with parentsEnable children and their parents to actively participate in the planning and carrying out of activities, personal routines and events within the setting.Provide appropriate care for children attending, including washing, toileting, feeding, dressing, comforting and the giving of prescribed medication and related special care requirements (following training received)Ensure that high quality curriculum planning, implementation and evaluation within the allocated team is carried out to support the needs of the individual child and group of children attending, with due regard for anti-discriminatory practice.Support and enable other practitioners within the team to contribute to the planning, implementation and evaluation process of the curriculum provided.Be involved in the selection and maintenance of play materials and other resources to support the curriculum provided.Carry out observations of individual and groups of children and develop and maintain appropriate individual profiles on each child.Develop and carry out individual plans to support children with specific needs liaising with parents and other relevant professionals as appropriate.Complete quality written reports for placement reviews; to support transitions, case conferences, IEPs, TACs etc.Encourage and promote parental involvement in the range of activities undertaken by the Nursery.Participate in the wider developments of the Nursery as a community resource, including assisting as required e.g., supporting parent education and family support activities.Work collaboratively with other agencies including when necessary attending case conferences and other relevant meetings on and off site.Be reflective of personal practice and assist in the identification of own and teams training needs and attend relevant courses when required to keep up to date with current childcare and education practice.To assist with the development of the Nursery - through effective participation in a range of initiatives which will include Investors in People, Quality Assurance Schemes, policy, and procedure development etc.To work in accordance with ACTs policies and procedures in respect of Equal Opportunities, Health, & Safety, Data Protection, Safeguarding and complaints procedure, and other ACT rules and procedures.To assume delegated responsibilities in the absence of Coordinator (0-3)To undertake any other duties which commensurate to the post.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITYThe post-holder will have no formal supervisory role but will be responsible for the co-ordination of staff deployed within their allocated teamThe post-holder, will give reflective practice feedback to colleagues/students /volunteers placed at the Nursery.QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCETo hold a level 2 or level 3 childcare and education qualification ( ESSENTIAL )To have a minimum of 1 years post qualification experience working with Under 5s gained through employment in a childcare and education settingPossess Paediatric First Aid Certificate - desirableKNOWLEDGEAn understanding of child development through out the age rangeKnowledge of the issues faced by people living in a multi-racial community in an inner-city areaKnowledge of activities and learning materials relevant to 0-5 years of ageKnowledge of basic hygiene and safety requirementsKnowledge of the relevant guidance to support educational programmes and care provision (e.g. SEN Code of practice)Knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage and other legislation relating to the care and education of children 0-5APTITUDE AND SKILLSTo be able to demonstrate effective communication skillsTo have literacy skills of a standard, which will enable the post holder to write reportsTo be able to contribute to written records on childrens progress which will be available to parents and other professionalsTo be able to take appropriate courses of action in a situation when a child is at risk or in dangerTo be able to recognise, plan for and respond to the basic physical, emotional, language and learning needs of childrenTo be able to share responsibility with other team members, to plan and organise activities appropriate to the needs of childrenTo be able to provide a safe and stimulating environmentTo be able to value diversity and have the potential to work within ACTs Equal Opportunities PolicyTo have the potential to deal with issues / complaints involving parents, other professionals and the community following training and experience in postTo be able to respond to different methods of working as requiredSalary: £23,000.00-£26,000.00 per year
