Job Description

SALARY: upto £40, 000 depending on experienceHOURS OF EMPLOYMENT: 9am - 5:30pm Monday to FridayBENEFITS: 25 + stats + excellent benefitsThe Law Costs Draftsman Role:Do you commute to work from a distance and now looking to work closer from home and the office Are you an experienced Costs Draftsman looking to join a forward-thinking organisation If so, a fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Costs Draftsman to join a thriving firm in Bishops Stortford to work within a busy team. The role will provide support to the department and you will report directly to the Senior Management. You will mainly manage a mixed caseload of bills within personal injury cases and clinical negligence.Main Duties and Responsibilities for the Law Costs Draftsman Role:

  • Providing professional guidance to team members in relation to cost issues that require specialist knowledge.
  • Collaborating with the Associate Cost Draftsman to implement new systems and processes to enhance and improve team performance.
  • Advising and updating on case progress and legal cost developments.
  • Maintaining a personal caseload, which includes dealing with adverse costs claims,
  • Attending detailed assessment hearings at Court
  • Acting for both Claimant and Defendant clients within Clinical Negligence, Personal Injury
  • Drafting statements for recovery of their costs and negotiating settlements.
  • Drafting Bills of Costs/Schedules of Costs
  • Preparation of Costs schedules and Estimates
  • Drafting of Bills of Costs within Multi-Track cases
  • Preparation of Points of Reply to dispute
  • Responsible for handling Negotiations of costs to settlement
  • Prioritising your workload
  • Working to strict deadlines
  • Advising clients on a cost recovery
  • Building strong and professional relationships with clients
  • Preparing own meetings with clients
    • Person Specification required for the Law Costs Draftsman Role
  • This the role would be best suited to applicants of at least 2 years of costs experience either from an in-house or agency background.
  • Able to manage a mixed caseload with limited supervision. This position is key to the growth plans for this team and will enable both development and opportunity for the successful candidate.
  • Strong understanding of Caselaw and CPR
  • Membership of the ACL is advantageous
  • Dealing with own caseload of claimant/defendant costs files.
  • You need to be driven, accurate and have an excellent telephone manner
  • Ability to work to deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office - good knowledge of Excel (spreadsheets, formula’s etc.)
  • Willingness to work well as part of a busy, friendly team
  • Have an excellent telephone manner
