Principal Engineer - Functional Safety

Take a principal role in the technical management of ISO26262 Functional Safety Projects, DFMEAs and associated diagnostics.Personal Specification

Degree qualified or similar qualification
Strong numeracy and literacy skills, including ability to write clear documentation
Good logical reasoning
8 Years of direct experience is essential with preferably some of this within the Automotive Industry
Excellent communication skills and able to work as part of a cross functional team
The successful candidate will have been actively involved in the development of functional safety following ISO26262, IEC61508 or similar Functional Safety Standards.
Must have experience of implementing a functional safety process for embedded system projects.
Good working knowledge of functional safety standards e.g. IEC61508, DO 178B/C, ISO26262.
Has some experience of developing associated diagnostic requirements and strategies associated with Functional Safety implementation.
Preferred experience working with powertrain systems including hybrid and battery electric vehicles.
Has experience of undertaking DFMEA at System and Sub-System level
Able to inspire team to strive for improvements and high customer service
Evidence of achieving results through effective self-motivation and prioritization
An ability to overcome cultural barriers

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Lead the functional safety aspects of all projects using ISO 26262
Development of safety architectures and safety plans to ensure compliance with ISO26262
Lead and coordinate creation of functional safety documentation according to ISO26262
Cascade safety requirements to System, Sub System and Component Levels
Collaborate with all relevant stakeholders on functional safety
Undertake reviews with product teams ensuring functional safety standards are complied with throughout product development cycles
Supporting the implementation of Functional Safety requirements and associated diagnostics
