Job Description

Formulation Chemist-Cosmetics/Personal CareBingley, West Yorkshire£23,000-£25,000Due to growth and expansion plans in place for this growing cosmetics developer, this role will provide the ideal candidate with great opportunities and possibilities for career development and progression.Key Responsibilities

  • Working under direction of the Principle Chemist on all formulation development projects throughout the entire product development process and in-line with daily priorities.
  • Responsible for monitoring stability and pack compatibility analysis for all products in development.
  • Formula Administration; creating and updating formula sheets, updating formulation documents, Product Information Files, MSDS, TDS and COA documents, filing hard copies and updating all relevant spreadsheets.
  • Producing samples for customers, both for NPD purposes and additional sample requests.
  • Liaising with microbiological and consumer testing companies to ensure other aspects of cosmetic testing outsourced is organised and runs in-line with required project timelines.
  • Assisting the Principle Chemist with scaling up formulations in our small scale manufacturing facility through to small scale production and ensuring that scale-up protocols are followed and maintained at all times.
  • Maintain and build on Quality Assurance processes and procedures.
  • Identifying suitable raw materials and technologies to be used in formulations.
  • Maintain awareness of materials under development and new market trends.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with raw material suppliers, external testing houses, cosmetic safety assessors and contract manufacturers.
  • Keep updated on new regulation and legislation guidelines. Some assistance will be required to ensure product compliance is maintained and adhered to during the development process for all products in development.
    • Key Requirements
  • BSc or equivalent in Cosmetic Science, Pharmaceutical Science, Chemistry, or another related subject.
  • At least 2-3 years experience in formulating and developing Cosmetic and Personal Care products within any or all of these categories; skincare, bodycare, suncare, male grooming, In Clinic and Spa products in industry.
  • Cosmetic regulation knowledge is extremely desirable, but full regulatory compliance training will be provided.
