Job Description

Are you passionate about history and want to share your enthusiasm with young learnersDo you have the skills and experience to teach history to secondary school students of different abilities and backgroundsIf yes, then we have an exciting opportunity for you!We are looking for a qualified and motivated history teacher to join a dynamic and supportive team at a school close to Henley-on-Thames in Oxfordshire, a mixed comprehensive school in Reading. You will be responsible for teaching history to students fromYear 7 to Year 13, following the national curriculum and preparing them for GCSE and A-level examinations.The school is based in rural Oxfordshire and supports around 900 students across Key Stages 3,4 and 5. Education here is offered at a high standard and is tailored to the needs and individual needs of the students where possible. The culture of the schoolis focussed on teamwork, collaboration and cooperation amongst students and staff.Please note that for this role to be accessible, it is essential that any applicants can drive or have access to reliable transportation due to its location.As a history teacher, you will:

  • Plan and deliver engaging and informative lessons on historical topics, such as British and world history, chronology, key figures, and important events.
  • Assess and grade student work, providing feedback and support.
  • Develop and implement effective teaching strategies and resources.
  • Manage student behaviour in the classroom and on school premises.
  • Communicate with parents and carers over student progress and participate in departmental meetings, parents evenings, and whole-school training events.
  • Liaise with other professionals, such as learning mentors, careers advisers, educational psychologists, and education welfare officers.
  • Organise and participate in extracurricular activities, such as outings, lunchtime clubs, social activities, and sporting events.
To be a successful history teacher, you will need to have:
  • QTS or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • A degree in history or a related subject.
  • A valid DBS check or willingness to obtain one.
  • A passion for teaching and learning.
  • A positive and professional attitude.
  • A willingness to adapt to different school environments and expectations.
